The Boulder International Film Festival has become one of the most popular and influential film festivals in the country. That statement is intentionally bold. Each year, the festival welcomes over 25,000 attendees, countless celebrity guests, A-list filmmakers, and more. It’s just one more reason to love Boulder, and I want to encourage you to add this event to your spring 2016 entertainment to-do list. Here are the details:
Opening Night
The Boulder International Film Festival begins on March 3, 2016 with an Opening Night Red Carpet Gala. To accommodate the large volume of festival-goers, the pre-event festivities are being held across two locations: the Hotel Boulderado ballroom and the Rembrandt Yard Event & Art Gallery. Both locations offer the same delicious small plates provided by the following local favorites:
Drinks will be served by Avery Brewing, Boulder Beer, and Francis Ford Coppola Winery.
All of that is enough to make any Boulderite’s mouth water, but as they have every year before, the festival’s producers aim to exceed all expectations. This year’s opening night entertainment is as delightful as its menu. Attractions include music by The Bob Schlesinger Trio and The Sweet Spot Trio, and Audi will have the best in luxury vehicular craftsmanship on display for your viewing pleasure. Reinke Brothers, Monster Makeup FX, and MakeUpMania will be putting their theatrical costume and makeup skills to work right in front of your eyes, and finally, the Guerilla Fanfare Brass Band will be stealing the show in the Second Line Parade to the Boulder Theater. Be sure to show up looking your best – Boulder Magazine will be on site doing step-and-repeat photos.
The theater doors will open at 7:30, and the opening night film screening begins at 8:00pm sharp. This will be the Colorado premier of the nationally-acclaimed documentary, Miss Sharon Jones!, by two-time Academy Award winner, Brenda Kopple. It’s not something you want to miss.
Following opening night, the festival will continue through March 6th. Select films will also be screened at the Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium and the Broomfield Auditorium during that time. The festival program is slated to be released later this month, so be sure to keep an eye on the website or Facebook page for updates.
Festival passes may be purchased online, which cost $450 each. The cost includes everything listed here, but if you prefer to purchase a ticket to the opening gala only, the price is $65.00 per person. Grab your passes now. You’ll be so glad you did.
