The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art offers vibrant exhibits and special events all year round. This May, BMoCA is hosting its sixth annual MediaLive festival. If you’d like to explore the workshops, performances, and events, we share the details here.
About the Event
MediaLive is an inspiring new media event that aims to highlight the importance of art, technology, and modern digital culture. It is the Arts Track of Boulder Startup Week, and will provide an engaging, unforgettable experience for attendees. For the 2018 reunion, the focus is on interdependence and the connections that form between our fellow humans, the environment, and nonhuman organisms and devices. The main features this year include:
- NeuroSpeculative AfroFeminism: an incredible virtual-reality show presented by Hyphen-Labs. This is an “award winning three-part digital narrative that sits at the intersection of product design, virtual reality, and neuroscience.”
- Internet Aerobics: an inclusive performance that’s available to all interested parties. Participants will gain insight into Internet structure using ethernet cables as visual representation.
- Kitty AI: an animated film by Turkish artist Pinar Yoldas that imagines a world in which artificial intelligence has emerged as ruler of the futuristic megalopolis. To appear unthreatening, the AI manifests as a cute kitten.
- An intriguing, sensory performance by Fort Collins band Sound of Ceres and the Boulder Symphony.
When and Where
The festival runs from May 14-19, and all performances are free and open to the public. During Boulder Startup Week, MediaLive will offer daily immersive programs at BMoCA from 11:00 to 5:00 p.m. In 2018, the festival organizers hope to encourage audience members to take an active role in the activities. When you participate in MediaLive, expect to engage in virtual reality opportunities and take part in interactive documentary displays.
