Each year on the first Saturday in May, people around the country gather together with family and friends to enjoy one of America’s most loved sporting events, and Boulder is no exception. After such great success with the inaugural event in 2013, Boulder Lifestyle Magazine is bringing us the second annual Kentucky Derby Party.
The Kentucky Derby is often referred to as “the most exciting two minutes in sports”, so it’s no surprise that this event draws an average of 150,000 visitors each year. The guest list for this annual run for the roses includes celebrities and members of royal families, and people travel great distances to feast their eyes on this 1.25 mile race. The Kentucky Derby is the first leg of the Triple Crown races, which also include the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes.
The first Kentucky Derby race was held in 1875, and since that time, it has evolved into a spectacle of high fashion and jubilant celebration. A number of traditions have become associated with what has been deemed “America’s Race”, the most famous of which is large elaborate headwear. Donning a lavish hat for the Kentucky Derby is believed to be good luck for the wearer and his or her chosen horse. Hats range from elegant, fashionable styles to the more unconventional silly styles. Headwear has become a staple at parties across the United States, including ours! A contest will be held for “Best Derby Hat”, so be sure to bring your most extravagant hat and take home the prize!

Another favorite tradition of the Kentucky Derby is the mint julep, and no party is complete without this iced blend of bourbon and mint. If you’ve got a taste for this refreshing southern beverage, the 2014 Boulder Lifestyle Kentucky Derby Party is a can’t-miss event for you! Hosted in the heart of Downtown Boulder at the historic Mapleton Hill Estate, party features include premium mint juleps and a variety of Kentucky’s favorite cuisines prepared for you by Oak at Fourteenth. If mint is not your flavor, check out the award-winning ales offered by Fate Brewing Company or sample the Prosecco, compliments of The Boulder Wine Merchant.
We are also very excited to announce that entertainment for the 2014 Boulder Lifestyle Kentucky Derby Party will be provided by The Grant Farm. For Boulder’s car enthusiasts, exotic cars from Lamborghini and Maserati will be on display. This party really does offer something for everyone! Since the event is being held as a benefit for Attention Homes, a non-profit organization that works to serve the needs of Boulder’s homeless youth, you can feel really good about having a good time. So, throw on your most attention-grabbing derby hat and come spend an afternoon enjoying the festivities with all of your favorite members of the Boulder community.

Keep in mind that this event is open to a limited number of guests, and tickets are expected to sell out fast. There is special “early bird” pricing available, but you’ll need to act quickly! Early bird pricing is only available until April 15, 2014. Of course, safety and convenience are top priorities when you’re having fun, so save yourself the trouble of parking and take advantage of the “VIP Ultimate Experience” ticket package, which includes a $50 credit toward Uber Car Service.
We are so excited that this party is back for a second year, and we look forward to seeing you there!
