There’s nothing that gets everyone in the party mood quite like Mardi Gras. The festivities, colorful masks, and of course, King Cake. With everyone’s favorite celebration coming up soon, 2016 will definitely be another unforgettable year. If you’re after something a bit more local than New Orleans, or even Denver, you’re in luck. Boulder has the best Fat Tuesday events in the area.
Here’s a look at what we’re most looking forward to in our town this time of year:
POSHsplat
Located in the heart of Boulder’s art community, Mardi Gras day at POSHsplat means a night full of painting, but with a Cajun spin. Learn from an expert artist as you hang out with your friends and paint a masterpiece. This year, the theme is “Mardi Gras Mambo.” Even if you think you can’t paint, their helpful team will pull the Van Gogh right out of you. The best part? No equipment necessary. All you have to do is show up, and you’re guaranteed to leave with artwork that’s uniquely yours. This is great for those who want to go out, but not go too crazy during the year’s top party week.
Aji
If painting doesn’t strike your fancy, check out the Aji Latin American Restaurant theme night on February 9th from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Acclaimed for their dedication to fresh, local ingredients, guests at Aji are in for a real treat. Known as the Brazilian Carnival Celebration, the restaurant will be filled with delicious South American flavors and beautiful customs. Though the food is local, the flavor is very much a window into the heart of Carnival. The all you can eat Brazilian dinner will feature all the finger food you can imagine, and live samba music will round out the festivities. It doesn’t get much more authentic than this.

Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar
Another one of our favorite places to celebrate is Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar. They’ll be hosting one of their annual Fat Tuesday events, perfect for anyone who is looking for a taste of New Orleans. All day specials include hurricanes, gumbo, Sazerac, crawfish, Cajun catfish, and jambalaya. If you’re looking for an awesome meal full of laughs and that unforgettable Zydeco spirit, look no further than Jax. Don’t pass on the colorful King Cake, either. It’s the signature food for anyone in the Mardi Gras spirit, and a pre-lenten staple. You’ll never want to geaux home.
This Fat Tuesday in Boulder, continue to enjoy all of your annual Mardi Gras favorites. From authentic Brazilian and Cajun cuisine to a night full of artwork, 2016 holds another unforgettable Carnival season. There’s nothing quite like the combination of good music, great food, and even better friends. Throw in a little Southern flavor, and you’ve got yourself one rocking night in February. I’m excited to see what Fat Tuesday has to offer, and am confident that it will be one to remember.
