Interested in celebrating LGBTQ+ visibility in Boulder County? Join the community for Boulder Pridefest from September 8-13, 2020. Although Pridefest will be a little different this year due to COVID-19, there’s a mix of both in-person and virtual events so you can participate however you feel comfortable. Here, I share a snapshot of the events to be featured at Pridefest 2020:
September 8: Drag Queen Storytime
Boulder Pride Week kicks off with Drag Queen Storytime on September 8 from 12:00-1:00 pm. This is a virtual event and will be live streamed from the Facebook page of Out Boulder County. Local drag queen Cardi Acarrest is hosting storytime and will read a selection of LGBTQ books.
September 9: Carpool Cinema
On September 9 from 7:00-9:00 pm, stop by the Boulder Reservoir for carpool cinema and enjoy a screening of The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert from your vehicle. To attend this event, please RSVP online.
September 10: 50+ LGBTQ Mixer
The 50+ mixer will be hosted by Out Boulder and the Boulder Area Agency on Aging via Zoom on September 10 from 5:30-6:30 pm. This special event is the perfect gathering place to spark discussions, reconnect, and make new connections with others who are 50+ in the LGBTQ community.
September 12: Big Gay Virtual Boston
Since the Boston Marathon is going virtual this year, local community member David Ensign encouraged Out Boulder to host a virtual race, too. The 124th Boston Marathon Virtual Experience is a 26.2-mileis 26.2-mile marathon, and we have several local runners who are qualified. If you’d like to sponsor local runners David Ensign or Lydia Dissly, the proceeds will benefit the important work of Out Boulder. The run will commence on September 12 at 9:00 am and will be live streamed to Out Boulder’s Facebook page.
September 12: Name and Gender Change Clinic
Legally changing your name and/or gender can be a confusing and daunting (and, of course, exciting) prospect. On September 12 from 2:00-3:00 pm, The Name Change Project will conduct a virtual presentation that outlines the process of changing your name and/or gender. If you’d like to attend this event, please RSVP online.
September 13: Boulder Pridefest Motorcade
Boulder Pridefest will culminate with a motorcade on September 13 from 9:30-11:30 am. Those interested in participating may register their vehicle here, and Juan Moreno (he/him) will be in touch with you in a few days with more information. If you’d like to view the motorcade from home, tune in for the live stream on the Facebook page. Donations are always welcome!
Boulder Pridefest 2020 is an exciting week of celebrating LGBTQ visibility in our county. If you’d like to learn more about the mission of Out Boulder, please visit this site and consider donating or volunteering.
