Whether you’re in the mood to have your mind expanded by enlightening speakers or take in an elegant ballet or symphony performance, look no further than Macky Auditorium this fall. Located on the CU Boulder campus (1595 Pleasant Avenue), Macky is a dazzling, historic concert hall whose previous lineup has included speakers like the Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall, and even Eleanor Roosevelt to band, orchestra, opera, dance, and jazz ensembles. Here’s a preview of what to expect at Macky in the coming months:
CU Symphony Orchestra
When: Friday, September 23, 8:00 p.m.
We’re fortunate to have several symphonic orchestras to entertain us here in Boulder. The CU Symphony Orchestra, which is comprised of music and non-music majors alike delivers its inaugural show of the 2016-17 academic year with a performance of the “Der Freischütz” overture by Carl Maria von Weber and Symphony No. 1 by Gustav Mahler.
Boulder Philharmonic Opening Night: Anderson & Roe
When: Saturday, October 8, 7:30 p.m.
A few weeks later, treat yourself to an evening with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra as it kicks off its season with a double concerto featuring pianist duo Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe. First, they’ll play Rachmaninoff’s famous, romantic Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, followed by Tchaikovsky’s recognizable Symphony No. 2 (“Little Russian”). Conducted by the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra’s Michael Butterman, this is sure to be an evening of beautiful music. In case you can’t make it to opening night, this performance will be repeated the following night, Sunday, October 9, at Pinnacle Performing Arts Complex in Denver.

Sunday, November 6, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Internationally renowned violinist Edward Dusinberre and violist Geraldine Walther of Takacs Quartet take the stage with renditions of Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 8” and Mozart’s “Sonfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola.”
Saturday, December 10, 7:30 p.m.
A Wicked Good Christmas, featuring Broadway singer and actress Dee Rosciolat, will celebrate the holiday season with festive songs from Wicked and other favorite Broadway shows, in addition to Christmas classics and carols.
Boulder Ballet Presents The Nutcracker
When: Friday, November 25 and Sunday, November 27
The Boulder Ballet teams up with the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra for one of our most cherished holiday traditions. A cast of more than 80 professional and young student dancers will take over the stage in this quintessential winter activity.
