Trash the Runway is returning once again to Mackey Auditorium on the CU campus. Taking place on Saturday, February 7th, at 7:00 pm, this annual event celebrates creativity, self-expression, and environmental and social responsibility upcycling. Here’s what you should know:

The Motivation Behind the Movement

Trash the Runway was born out of a passion for nurturing nature and up-and-coming generations by encouraging ingenuity and critical thinking, fostering confidence, and engaging in activities for the greater good. The ultimate goal is to leverage fashion, design, and sustainability to make a difference for the planet and its inhabitants. 

Creative Lab at Common Threads

Trash the Runway is brought to life by Creative Lab at Common Threads, a Boulder consignment shop that hosts upcycling and design classes for adults and children. It encourages creatives to learn to sew, quilt, embroider, knit, and more, giving them the tools to create their own fits.

Trash the Runway is dedicated to this craft. Middle and high school students are invited to roll up their sleeves, think outside the box, and design their own clothes with one caveat: all clothes must be made out of found, non-recyclable, and non-compostable materials (including old t-shirts, bubble wrap, climbing rope, trampoline material, wallpaper, and computer keyboards). Participants have only two months to develop their finished product. 

Nonprofit Partnership

Trash the Runway partners with Blue Sky Bridge, an organization whose mission is to fight child abuse through education, intervention, and prevention. Proceeds from the February 7th event will be donated to help their cause.
