Valentine’s Day tends to require a lot of planning. You have to determine where to go, what to do, and how to make Cupid proud. But if you have reservations about making reservations, don’t panic: staying in can be just as rewarding as dining out. In fact, with a little creativity, there are many wonderful ways to make Valentine’s Day spectacular without leaving home sweet home.
Try one of the following:
Order Sushi for Two
You don’t have to go to a restaurant to dine in style; order delivery or takeout from just about anywhere! But consider our favorites: Sushi Zanmai or Japango. Sample spicy tuna rolls, octopus, oyster shooters, hamachi, sashimi, scallops, tempura, and more. It’s recommended to start with light fish before moving on to heavier bites. That way, you can fit more in.
Pop Open the Champagne
Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to toast to your love (or toast to making it through a pandemic). Splurge on a bottle of Dom Perignon, Krug Grande Cuvée, or Cristal and see where the evening takes you. If you want a date night theme, pop open the bubbly in a romantic bubble bath for two.
Try a Wine and Cheese Pairing
A wine and cheese pairing in your living room only requires two obvious ingredients. Stop by Cured and choose from a wide selection, including Colorado, Italian, or Spanish cheeses. Grab a great gouda or a blue cheese for a red-letter night.
You can start with some of the tried-and-true combos, like port and blue stilton, champagne and brie, and sauvignon blanc and goat cheese, or ask the fine folks at Cured what they recommend.
Set Up a Spa Night
There are a variety of ways to turn your bathroom into a relaxing oasis. Turn off your phones, light some candles, choose a favorite incense, cue up the meditative music, and find your inner Zen. Take turns giving each other a massage or perfecting the art of the facial. Even men need to exfoliate; no one can hide from their pores.
Stream a Concert
With the world on pause the last few years, live music has fallen out of favor. Technology can’t come to the rescue entirely, but it has made it possible to enjoy our favorites from the comfort of our home.
Whether you’re in the mood for Alicia Keys, Dierks Bentley, or something else, there are plenty of sites to stream your favorite concerts. It’s not quite Red Rocks, but it’s the only “venue” with no line at the bathroom.
Valentine’s Day at home can be just as memorable as romance on-the-go. Try one of the above activities to avoid the crowds and spend the night celebrating solely (and soulfully) with each other.
