The hillsides, meadows, and mountains are dressed to the nines in wildflowers, green prairie grasses, and lush pines. Our city is noteworthy for more than a few things, but nothing brings visitors here year after year quite like its stunning natural beauty. Get these must-do activities on your calendar to take full advantage of this before summer comes to a close.
Paddle at Gross Reservoir
Located at 7,000 feet, Gross Reservoir is a 440-acre lake. Nestled amongst the foothills with views of the high mountains nearby, a picnic, a paddle, or a hike along its 10 miles of shoreline treats visitors to some serious views. Rent a paddle board or kayak from one of Boulder’s many local outfitters and spend the day out on the water.
Bike Ride Around Rabbit Mountain
Many bike rides in Boulder treat cyclists to gorgeous views, fun terrain, and a trying workout. However, the Rabbit Mountain loop may be the best for intermediate cyclists looking to get a mix of off-the-beaten-path and in-town scenery. This 35-mile ride takes bikers from Boulder along the scenic Old Stage Coach road, then to Longmont and through Niwot. Work up an appetite climbing over 1,000 feet of elevation and then re-fuel at Niwot’s fun, locally-owned brewery and bike shop, The Wheel House.
Climb the Second Flatiron
For the ambitious outdoor enthusiasts or those interested in climbing, hire a guide to take you up Boulder’s second Flatiron. Book an AMGA-certified rock climbing guide through Colorado Mountain School and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime. See Boulder from an entirely new perspective, then celebrate your accomplishment afterward – and satiate what’s sure to be a big appetite – with a tasty meal along Pearl Street.
Visit the Saturday Morning Market
While Boulder’s farm-fresh produce and products are available year-round directly from suppliers, the Boulder Farmers’ Market ends when winter arrives. Frequently cited as one of our state’s best farmers’ markets, this Saturday event begs exploration. Located along 13th Street, the market not only boasts ample amounts of fresh produce sold by the folks that grew it, but numerous other family-friendly activities as well. Listen to live music, dine on samosas or tamalés, and chat with the friendly folks that make this city so incredible.
Community Music Night
Boulder’s 63rd Street Farm hosts Community Music Nights throughout the summer months on its regenerative farm. This is a special activity unique to Boulder and this bio-diverse property. Enjoy the talents of local musicians, support this awesome agricultural business, dine on wood fired pizza, and make new friends. Bring your own chair, beverage, and bug spray to partake in this sweet summer night activity.
It’s hard to capture the top five things to do in Boulder before summer’s end, but we think this list showcases a lot of what makes our city so awesome. From organic farming to adventure to live music, we are grateful for the endless amount of inspiration, creativity, and passion that flows from our city’s natural surroundings and cool residents.
