Spring is in the air! Our team has compiled its monthly list of things to do in Boulder, and we think you’ll be pleased with what we’ve found. In March 2016, our city is putting major emphasis on cultural awareness, and of course, you’re invited to join in on all the fun. Movies, craft brews, and art…doesn’t get much better than that. Here’s your list. Have fun!
Boulder International Film Festival
March 3, 2016 – March 6, 2015
The Boulder International Film Festival is a national highlight that draws movie buffs, makers, and stars from all over. The entire festival is a must for your spring entertainment calendar, but if you have to choose only one night to attend, make it opening night.
Opening night is scheduled for March 3, 2016. It will begin with dinner and drinks prepared for you by some of our favorite local eateries, followed by the Colorado premier of Miss Sharon Jones!, the nationally-acclaimed documentary. I’ve gathered all the information you need (including how to snag some tickets of your own), which you can find here.
First Friday: Opening Reception with Danielle DeRoberts
March 4 – 5, 2016
First Friday is a walking tour of participating Boulder art galleries, which is held on the first Friday of each month. In March, the opening reception will feature the work of Danielle DeRoberts, an artist and clothing designer from Telluride, CO. Danielle blends her two talents by sewing directly into her painted canvases, and the end result is a beautifully texturized work of art. Check her out at Madelife from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.
Boulder Strong Ale Fest
March 5, 2016
You’re going to want to leave your keys at home for this one, friends. This is the 14th annual event, and it is hosted by Avery Brewing Company. During the Boulder Strong Ale Fest, you will find the strongest beers from craft breweries around the country rounded up into a single location. By strong, we are talking 8% ABV or higher.
Here’s the cherry on top: all proceeds will benefit Get Outside and Learn Something, a local nonprofit that teaches confidence, awareness, and resilience to our local youth. It’s fun for a great cause, which should put the Boulder Strong Ale Fest at the top of your to-do list in March 2016. Learn more and get your tickets online at EventBrite.
Boulder Arts Week
March 25, 2016 – April 2, 2016
What a great time to play tourist in your own hometown! Our city’s culture is unique and vibrant, and Boulder Arts Week is a great way to celebrate the artists and artisans that color our surroundings with their world-class talent. Of course, we are biased in our opinion of Boulder’s art scene, but that does not make it any less true. In fact, it has been named a top U.S. arts destination by American Style Magazine.
No matter what your schedule looks like or what your personal tastes may be, Boulder Arts Weeks has got you covered. Events include everything from live performance art (theater, song, and dance) to exhibitions featuring various media and even a few lectures on art appreciation. However you choose to participate, be sure to get out there and feast your eyes and ears on the very best of our local culture.
Speaking of local culture, here are our top picks for live music in March 2016, both at Pepsi Center.
- 3/29/2016: The Who at Pepsi Center
- 3/31/2016: Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band at Pepsi Center
Also, don’t forget that Taste of Pearl tickets go on sale early this month. The event will be held on April 17th. And if you’re looking for St. Patrick’s Day events, we’ll have our top picks for you very soon.
We are on the edge of our seats for what the rest of the spring and summer will bring. Be sure to check back with us this time every month for an updated listing of the best things to do in Boulder and the surrounding areas.
