To encourage further social distancing measures and ensure Boulder remains economically and physically healthy, The Dairy Arts Center has created a virtual space for all to enjoy. Called “Free Range Dairy”, our city’s acclaimed art center will feature numerous world-class performances, all available online. Here’s what you need to know about The Dairy’s upcoming virtual events.
Cinema
When: various showtimes
While Boulder is often noted for its world-class, mountain terrain, it also boasts a vibrant artistic community, including one of our country’s leading arts cinemas, The Boedecker Theater. Even though we can’t physically catch a film at this acclaimed cinema, we can still take in documentaries, short films, and variety shows, all from the comfort of home. Grab a bowl of popcorn and settle in for a fantastic, memorable film hosted by The Dairy.
Graphic Score Workshop
When: 6/2, 2:00 pm
Ever wanted to make music but unsure of where to start? Join this Zoom lesson and learn how to create beautiful music inspired by your surroundings. Participants will learn about graphic scores – music that also reads as visual art – and use items around the house to craft interesting sounds. Guests need only a sheet of paper, drawing tools, and household objects to participate in this engaging workshop.
Boulder’s Story Slam
When: 6/7, 6:00 – 7:30 pm
Cozy up on the couch and tune in to Boulder’s Story Slam to hear awe-inspiring, heart-wrenching, laugh-inducing tales from creatives in our community. The evening’s theme is “Ring”, meaning story-tellers will offer five-minute monologues on something based around or inspired by this word. If you have a story related to this theme, The Dairy invites you to submit your story proposal for a chance to perform in an inviting and encouraging space during the Boulder Story Slam.
Boulder Writing Studio: The Poetry of Delight
When: 6/14, 4:00 pm
During this difficult time, art can help us all feel a little more connected to each other and the greater global community. This event focuses on providing poems that bring joy and delight. Three noteworthy poets will present their selections to listeners in the hope of brightening each participants’ individual corner of the world. A discussion will follow the readings and all are invited to contribute.
Inside/Out: Virtual Variety Show Fundraiser
When: 6/18, 6:30 – 8:00 pm
Support The Dairy’s COVID-19 relief fund while enjoying a truly unique variety show. Aerial performers, comedians, dancers, and musicians will take the stage while participants enjoy viewing these interesting performances from the comfort and convenience of their own homes. Support our community’s talented collection of artists by attending the Inside/Out: Virtual Variety Show Fundraiser.
The Dairy Arts Center has long been a pillar in Boulder’s creative community, offering internationally-acclaimed films, ballets, operas, and more. During this economic downturn, art is increasingly important to connect, inspire, and uplift humanity. Attend any of these events to show support and encouragement for our city’s artists.
