One of the best autumn traditions is carefully considering and finally selecting your favorite pumpkins out of a patch of bulbous orange gourds. Crisp fall weekend afternoons provide the perfect weather and plenty of time to take the family out to one of Boulder County’s numerous pumpkin patches and farms. Not only do these open farm fields offer plump, colorful pumpkins ripe for the picking, but many also include petting zoos, corn mazes, and other fun themed events. Here are some of our favorites in and around Boulder County.
Cured Organic Farm
Cure Organic Farm is one of our personal favorites. This commercial family farm is located just six miles east of Boulder. The farm grows over 100 different varieties of certified organic vegetables, herbs and flowers on 15 acres. All of the crops we grow are distributed within 50 miles of the farm through a CSA program, to local restaurants, farmers markets and our farm store on site. The farm is also home to several honey bee hives, a flock of hens and ducks, and heritage Berkshire and Mangalitsa pigs which are rotationally grazed.
Rocky Mountain Pumpkin Ranch
Each weekend throughout the month of October, this Longmont farm opens its doors to guests. Celebrations include carnival rides, games, pony rides, a petting zoo, and more. In addition to these exciting fall festival activities, Rocky Mountain Pumpkin Ranch has a winding hay-bale maze, cornstalk tunnel, and pick-your-own pumpkin patch, each making the perfect backdrop for Christmas Card photos or fall-themed portraits.
Munson Farms
Since 1976, this classic Boulder farm has provided our county’s residents with locally grown produce, including spinach, sweet corn, and pumpkins. Every fall, Munson Farms welcomes folks to its famous pumpkin patch. Select from hundreds of beautiful ripe pumpkins and head back the next month to find the perfect Christmas tree.
