How did TED Talks Begin?
TED Talks might seem like a recent trend, but they actually date back to 1984. The first event took place in Monterey, California, and was organized by Richard Saul Wurman, an architect and designer who saw that technology, entertainment, and design (i.e., TED) were merging in unprecedented ways.
The initial TED Talk featured, of all things, a demonstration on how to use a compact disc and read an e-book; it also discussed the graphics used in movies like Star Wars.
Although an innovative idea, the 80s weren’t quite ready for TED; the first event lost money, and TED didn’t occur again until 1990. After that, TED Talks came about. Their popularity soared in 2006 when these talks went online; they have since been celebrated.
What is TEDxBoulder?
TEDxBoulder is an independently organized event showcasing innovators, change-makers, influencers, and more from diverse disciplines. Focusing on “Ideas Worth Spreading,” TEDxBoulder invites speakers to share their stories, communicate creative ideas, and spark thought-provoking conversations. It goes beyond just a lecture series, encouraging participants to interact with speakers, ask curious questions, and explore unconventional thinking.
TEDxBoulder has been a main event at Chautauqua since 2010, with talks watched over 30 million times online and several featured on TED.com.
