This summer welcomes back an abundance of activities for kids throughout Boulder County. Last year, many camps, clubs, and events were put on hold, but this year brings even more to the table. Fight off the dog days of summer and encourage the little ones to stay engaged, curious, and creative through any one of the following.
BMoCA Youth Programs
Running throughout the entire summer, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art’s youth programs are well thought out and inspiring for children ages 5 – 16. The museum’s “Tinker @ BMoCA” hosts weeklong sessions that allow participants to work with clay, wire, canvas and other mediums to construct their own masterpieces. Multiple sessions and subjects will ensure that everyone can find the perfect activity for their little Picassos.
Junkyard Social Club
This venue offers something exciting for everyone. Kids can explore the playground – concocted of donated, scraped material that has been meticulously transformed into forts, tunnels, stairs, and more. For children interested in STEM-focused activities, participate in experiments, hosted by a Junkyard staff member and guaranteed to be just as entertaining as they are educational. Even better, JSC’s summer camp invites cooped-up kids to become “provocateurs of play” and create their own junkyard art, collaborate to solve problems, and lead adventures of epic proportions.
ABC Kids Climbing
From open gyms to summer camps, ABC Kids Climbing has one goal in mind – to get your children safely scaling rocks. The expert coaches, teachers, and climbers at ABC are patient, passionate, and encouraging, helping kids to overcome their fears and gain new skill sets along the way. Private lessons are also available for those who want additional, personalized instruction. Start the kids climbing early and they’ll be scaling the 2nd Flatiron in no time.
Gateway Park Fun Center
Open every day, Boulder’s Gateway Fun Park is a perfect getaway for a rainy afternoon. Let the little ones shake out their energy in the life-sized maze, take a couple swings in the batting cages, or channel their inner race car driver on the go-cart track. Older teens will also enjoy this epicenter for fun and can practice their golf swing at the driving range, play some old-school arcade games, or get a sweet treat at the snack bar.
When Boulder’s summer temps peak, head down to the Pearl Street Pop-Jet Fountain to cool off in a beautiful location. Watch the passersby on the pedestrian mall while the kiddos run in and out of spurting water fountains. Bring a change of clothes and grab an ice cream from Gelato Boy or a sandwich from Organic Sandwich Co.
Our city’s vibrant artistic community, adventurous outdoor groups, and family-friendly businesses always show up for Boulder’s kids to provide them with countless activities and events. It’s a great time to be a kid in Boulder so be sure to help yours take advantage of some of these wonderful activities.
