Firehouse Art Center invites LGBTQIA+ teens and allies to step into a summer of creativity, confidence, and self-expression through its inspiring youth program, Slay the Runway.
Designed for ages 13–18, this free two-week summer workshop blends fashion design, sewing, and performance in a supportive, affirming environment where students are encouraged to explore their personal style and artistic voice.
Since launching in 2021, Slay the Runway has offered young people a rare opportunity to learn hands-on creative skills while building community and self-confidence. Participants work alongside experienced instructors, professional makeup artists, and choreographers to create original garments and prepare for a professionally produced runway showcase. Throughout the program, students will learn:
- Garment construction and sewing techniques
- Fashion design fundamentals
- Performance and runway presentation skills
- Creative collaboration and self-expression
The experience culminates in a runway show on June 27 at the Dairy Arts Center, where participants will debut their original creations before family, friends, and the community.

Slay the Runway is more than a fashion program. It is a safe, empowering space where teens can connect, create, and celebrate who they are.
