
With fall right around the corner, Boulder’s leaves begin to shift from green to gold and cooler temperatures fill the air. Spend time outside or participate in a plethora of virtual events that help our city reconnect and flourish in spite of COVID-19 restrictions. Here are some exciting happenings this September.
BIFF Drive-In
When: various showtimes throughout September
Where: Boulder Municipal Airport
Named one of the top 25 film festivals in the country, BIFF enthusiasts and film lovers alike were sorely disappointed with the cancellation of this year’s festival. However, BIFF shifted gears and decided to screen its films as drive-in movies, allowing everyone to enjoy this festival safely. Patrons are invited to bring their own food, including take-out from local restaurants, and enjoy a variety of screenings, film genres, and Boulder’s great outdoors.
Dairy Drive In: Oliver Sacks – His Own Life
When: 9/4, 8:00 pm
Where: Dairy Parking Lot (west side of building)
After receiving a terminal diagnosis, Oliver Sacks began a series of interviews with himself, friends, and family to chronicle his entire life up until that point. The film explores the neurological doctor’s experiences, drug addiction, and obsession with the human brain. This remarkable film provides viewers an in-depth look at a smart, troubled, fascinating man and his exploration into the unknown.
BOLDitude Labor Day Virtual 10k
When: various times, Labor Day Weekend
Where: virtual
The much anticipated BOLDERBoulder was postponed until Labor Day and then cancelled until next year, leaving many of our city’s runners in the lurch. Now, the famous race is back virtually for a Labor Day event that is sure to draw a “crowd”. Sign on from anywhere, don a funny costume, and get ready to pound the pavement in celebration of a city that won’t take no for an answer.
The Death of Nosferatu
When: 9/12 – 10/25
Where: Chautauqua Picnic Shelter, 2:30 pm
This live-action, outdoor play chronicles the story of Nosferatu and his battle with Van Helsing. A moderate hike leads guests along the Enchanted Mesa Trail while scenes from the gothic novel are acted out along the way. A gripping storyline, beautiful scenery, and social distancing measures make this the perfect autumn activity for theater lovers of all ages.
Best of Boulder E-Bike Tour
When: 9/22, 10:30 – 1:00
Where: Meeting spot determined upon reservation
Experience Boulder from the comfortable seat of a fat-tire, electric bicycle and zoom over the city’s steep hills and winding streets. A knowledgeable tour guide will point out historic spots and popular locales during this mid-day tour. Regardless of whether you’re a Boulder local or recently moved to our city, all will enjoy this informative and fun tour without even breaking a sweat.
