September is right around the corner, and with it an enticing batch of events guaranteed to make memories. Nothing seems to slow down in Boulder, even as summer comes to a close. There are still plenty of outdoor activities, open-air markets, and art exhibitions. Here’s just a handful of adventures you can put on your calendar this September.
ScubaCon
When: 9/5 – 8 (virtual), 9/10 – 11 (in person)
Where: Weaver’s Dive & Travel Center
Who would have guessed that one of September’s most interesting events would be a scuba conference in our landlocked state? In fact, Boulder has a diverse community of divers who travel all over the world to explore its oceans. If you’ve recently thought about earning your scuba diving license, join in ScubaCon 2022 and meet others in this awesome, adventurous community.
Friday Night Weird
When: 9/10, 8:30
Where: Dairy Arts Center
Harkening back to the days of Rocky Horror Picture Show, the Friday Night Weird film series seeks to draw fans in for cult classics, make them scream, and keep them coming back for more the next weekend. Each film is spooky, quirky, and plain weird, but a fantastic way to spend Friday night. Don’t just go to the theater, catch a creepy flick with Boulder’s eclectic crowd.
Downtown Boulder Fall Fest
When: 9/16 – 18
Where: 1300 Block of Pearl
Over three decades have passed since the inaugural Boulder Fall Festival, and each year brings a different smattering of things to do. For 2022’s event, musicians, food vendors, brewers, and artists will set up downtown, treating the fine people of Boulder to a really great time. A Jeff & Paige performance will captivate the little ones, while the Firefly Handmade Market gives guests the perfect excuse to shop: you’ll be supporting local makers!
Ancient Civilizations Conference
When: 9/24 – 25
Where: GaiaSphere Event Center
Archaeology buffs (or just fans of Indiana Jones) should jot this down on the calendar. The first ever Ancient Civilizations Conference will open guests’ eyes to these advanced cities that came long before, while exploring what can be learned from each. Eleven different speakers will lead discussions on all things ancient, seeking to answer questions like “why are we here?” and “where do we come from?”.
Street Wise: Boulder Mural Festival
When: 9/29
Where: throughout Boulder
The mission for each annual Street Wise is twofold: to make our city even more beautiful through public works of art, and to showcase diversity and promote inclusion in our artistic community. The festival is sponsored by numerous Boulder businesses and gives a platform for artists from all walks of life to create, inspire, and share their passion with our city’s residents. Here’s a complete list of murals and their locations.
Take advantage of the last of the warm weather and get outside, enjoy our city’s vibrant cultures, and take part in the richness of Boulder’s people. There really is no time like the present to engage with one another and participate in the awesome community that makes Boulder the absolute best place to call home.
