As an eclectic and progressive city, Boulder has always prided itself on carrying a wide variety of diverse and cultural events. As such, Recycled Runway has evolved into one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. Now in its 7th year, Recycled Runway will be held April 12 at the Boulder Theater.
Sponsored by Common Threads Creative Lab, Recycled Runway is a fashion show and competition with a twist. Students in grades 6-12 create and don original garments from a variety of day-to-do day items. Through collaboration with instructors, participants design and trouble-shoot independent runway looks, all of which will be photographed by highly-regarded Denver photographer Shelly Patterson. Even better is the fact that all the profits raised at Recycled Runway will aid the Boulder area Blue Sky Ridge – a child and family advocacy center.
In addition to Common Threads Creative Lab, several Boulder-area business icons and leaders will have a hand in sponsoring Recycled Runway 7, including our real estate team…a collaboration we’re very excited about. We love being involved with an event that creates pathways for local students to creatively express themselves in an artistic, yet competitive setting.
How the Competition Works and What to Expect
The judges will consist of three local artists who will evaluate the participants based on the following criteria: construction, design, vision, material collection, and execution. Those who attend Recycled Runway 7 will most certainly be in for a creative and entertaining treat. Past participants have designed outfits made from everything from candy wrappers to receipts and newspapers.
