In a place like Boulder that’s brimming with good causes, it’s easy to find an organization to support whose mission is near and dear to your heart. This spring, many nonprofits are opening their doors to the community for their annual fundraising events. These are excellent opportunities to have fun and meet others with similar passions and values. Here are a few organizations hosting fundraising events this spring:
Boulder Humane Society’s Puttin’ on the Leash: The Silver Screen
When: Saturday, April 22, 6:00 p.m.
Where: Coors Events Center, CU Campus
In its 25th year, the Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s Puttin’ On the Leash celebrates all things related to the unique relationships we share with our furry friends. Themed “The Silver Screen,” this year’s gala will be hosted by Broadway Animal Hospital’s Dr. Lee Woods and Fox31 Denver’s Kami Carmann. Enjoy delicious food from Boulder’s best restaurants, drinks from Superior Liquor, and more than 600 unique items available during silent and live auctions—including memorable getaways, beautiful jewelry, and local adventures. It is sure to be an unforgettable night of raising funds to enhance the lives of animals.
The Humane Society of Boulder Valley provides shelter and care to more than 7,000 animals each year. Proceeds from the gala will allow the HSBV to expand its safety net of care for the pets and people of Boulder Valley and beyond.
When: Saturday, May 6, 2:00-8:00 p.m.
Where: Highland City Club, 885 Arapahoe Avenue
I am thrilled to sponsor the fifth annual Boulder Lifestyle Derby Party, held this year on the lawn of the historic Highland Building and City Club in the heart of downtown Boulder! Over the last four years, the event has raised more than $40,000 for TRU Care Hospice, Attention Homes, and There With Care, and this year’s proceeds will continue to benefit these outstanding organizations. Mint juleps, the 143rd Kentucky Derby, and knowing that you are helping local charities-–what could be better?
When: Saturday, May 6
Where: TBD
This year’s Boulder Derby Party celebrates the 143rd annual Kentucky Derby, and comes complete with great live music, gourmet food and drinks, mint juleps, live and silent auctions, casual betting, and the best party in town!
All donations and sponsorships from the event directly benefit local nonprofit Front Range Hippotherapy (FRH), an incredible organization that use horses as a therapeutic tool to provide physical, occupational, and speech therapy. They have been in operation since 2006, and grow every year. As you can imagine, there are challenges associated with running a nonprofit year-round that requires a herd of 10 horses. Proceeds from the Boulder Derby Party will help cover FRH’s operating costs and allow them to continue to make a positive impact on their clients attaining physical, cognitive, and emotional benefits from horse therapy. Funds will also provide year-round scholarships to clients to help defray the cost of therapy.
Boulder Bridge House Community Art Show
When: Friday, June 9
Where: Community Table Kitchen
Bridge House offers a range of services and opportunities for homeless men and women, including case management, housing support, mental health support, medical services, and a Ready to Work program for homeless individuals.
Recognizing the importance of recreational and social activities for transient populations, Bridge House also conducts art therapy groups to help its clients feel a sense of caring and belonging. This unique community event brings together its art therapy students to showcase their finished pieces alongside internationally recognized artist Will Day. Pick up a piece for your home, office, or for a friend—you can feel good knowing that artists receive 100 percent of the proceeds from their work.
It’s great to see the spirit of philanthropy here in Boulder. I am proud to live in a place where giving back is such an integral part of our community. Which of these events do you plan to attend? Let us know in the comments!
