A local Boulder author, Andrew Newman, wants to help you make bedtime stories a regular part of your routine with your child, because they can strengthen your bond with your children, and they’re a very effective way to boost their confidence early in life. Andrew’s philosophy is that by setting aside just 20 minutes a day for bedtime stories, parents can deepen the relationship they have with their kids.
In fact, Andrew thinks that bedtime stories are so powerful that he’s written one of his own. The Hug Who Got Stuck is a conscious bedtime story, meaning it consciously teaches children and gives them practical tools for coping with the ups and downs of life. The Hug Who Got Stuck features characters who resolve real-life challenges by using problem-solving skills that your own child can use to help improve their self-confidence and sense of belonging. The book, along with others in the Conscious Bedtime Storybook Club collection, also introduces children to basic meditation and breathing exercises. Nurturing a child’s spirituality is a theme throughout the book, and the author hopes to help young kids find peace within themselves.
Another goal of this book club is developing a deeper connection between parents and their children through a shared bedtime story experience. The books come with activity pages that help parents and children connect by making bedtime stories a daily practice. According to Andrew Newman’s Kickstarter page, “When children get loving connection at this time of day, they integrate their day better and go to sleep feeling safe and knowing that they belong. This grows their confidence and self-esteem.” It’s a concept that we are proud to support.
The Hug Who Got Stuck features three main lessons:
- Help young children find silence within themselves
- Remind children to love the body they have
- Teach children about sacred space and honoring nature
The book comes with reminder stickers for each lesson. These lessons are conveyed though the adventures of the hero, Hug, as it navigates past “the web of sticky thoughts” to deliver love and care to the one special heart it was made for.
Who are these books for?
- Families who recognize the wisdom of their little ones and want to nurture their spirituality.
- Conscious parents who want to deepen their connection to their kids through simple breathing exercises, meaningful characters, and engaging activity pages.
- Educators who want to model advanced spiritual concepts easily.
Setting aside 20 minutes a day for bedtime stories can make a huge difference in the self-esteem and confidence of your little ones, and it may even help you sleep a little better, too! Make bedtime stories a daily habit in the new year, and use these stories, activities, and lessons to strengthen your bond with your children.
