Fall is finally here and we couldn’t be more delighted. The break from summer’s heat comes with a host of events that celebrate everything Colorado’s autumnal season has to offer. Don your coziest sweater and head out to catch these awesome events throughout our golden city.
Kristopher Wright: Just As I Am
When: October through February 19, 2023
Where: BMoCA
Blending printmaking and painting, Kristopher Wright’s fall exhibit, Just As I Am, at BMoCA captures iconic scenes of American life and weaves them with his own personal narratives. Capturing both joy and tragedy, Wright uses loud colors in his large-scale works to show scenes from his childhood that depict a treasured community. These still-life moments communicate a liturgical feel and remind viewers how crucial healthy communities are to individual well-being.
Teton Gravity Research: Magic Hour
When: 10/6, 6:45 – 11pm
Where: Boulder Theater
No one does winter sports better than Teton Gravity Research. This Jackson Hole-based company has long been encouraging people to get outside in the snow and do something crazy. TGR’s films are world-renowned and, fortunately for us Boulderites, they are bringing Magic Hour right to our beloved Boulder Theater. This film covers 27 years of footage, captured during magic hour – the precious moment just after sunrise and just before sunset when the mountains glow with a prism of colors and dedicated powder hunters are making fresh tracks.
Sundance: Indigineous Shorts Tour
When: 10/6 – 9
Where: The Dairy
The Dairy welcomes Sundance Film Fest’s Indigenous Shorts Film Tour for its 91-minute theatrical presentation of six films made by Indigenous individuals. Some filmmakers hail from the U.S. while others are creating art based on their experiences in the Philippines and Mexico. One film, The Original Shareholder Experience, follows a young woman from the Pueblo of Laguna as she rises to professional success and is asked to sell a genocidal product on live television.
Boulderthon
When: 10/8 – 9, start times vary
Where: Downtown Boulder
Boulder’s signature half marathon and marathon comes on the heels of hot weather, giving runners the best opportunity to pound pavement in cooler temps. This iconic race takes runners through the heart of Boulder and on a tour to some scenic outposts before finishing on the bricks of Pearl Street. Boulderthon doubles as a great opportunity to entice out of town guests to visit before the Thanksgiving rush and experience fall before all of the leaves disappear.
Community Harvest Festival
When: 10/12, 4 – 7pm
Where: Growing Gardens
In true fall fashion, the Community Harvest Festival curates a quintessential autumn experience. Celebrate a bountiful harvest while hanging out with goats, or select a giant orange pumpkin from an overflowing patch. A bluegrass band and tasty food make this a perfect event for the whole family. Pack a picnic blanket and spend time with Boulder’s agrarian community while learning a thing or two about planting perennials.
We are so grateful to live in such a lively place. This fall brings fantastic opportunities to continue engaging with Boulder’s wonderful communities and businesses while supporting fellow artists, growers, athletes, and more.
