What’s not to love about Memorial Day weekend? Not only is it a dedicated time to kick back, relax, and spend time with friends and family, but it’s a chance to honor those who have served our country, as well. Here’s how we’re kicking off summer in Boulder this Memorial Day weekend:
When: Saturday, May 27- Monday, May 29, 2017
Where: Downtown Boulder, from 9th Street to 14th Street between Canyon Blvd. & Arapahoe Ave
It’s here! In its 30th year, the annual Boulder Creek Festival is one of Boulder County’s most beloved events. Peruse more than 500 vendors offering handmade jewelry, arts, crafts, and more. Enjoy dance and music performances on four stages, and nosh on delicious cuisine from 50 delicious food vendors. Live musical acts include Dead Phish Orchestra, Hazel Miller, Paa Kow, Chain Station, and many more! The festival also features carnival rides, a bounce castle, and additional fun for the kids. Bring the whole family—there’s something for everyone during this three-day celebration.
When: Monday, May 29, 2017
Where: 30th and Walnut (start line)
Whether you’re a runner, walker, or spectator, the BolderBOULDER is so much more than a 10K—it is a true community event. Founded in 1979 as a small, local 10K, it has since grown to be one of the largest and most respected community running events in the world. If you’re running, the energy and enthusiasm of the 5,000+ participants are sure to boost your adrenaline during this run through town. If you’re cheering from the sidelines, you’re sure to be entertained by belly dancers, costumes, an unexpected beer-and-bacon stop, and eclectic music as the runners make their way around the course.
Once you’ve crossed the finish line in front of a stadium full of more than 50,000 fans, stick around for the largest Memorial Day tribute in the U.S. at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Folsom Field. Complete with a 21-gun salute by the University of Colorado NROTC members, singing of the national anthem, and sky divers from the Mile-Hi Sky Diving Team, the grand finale honors all of those who have served our country.
Memorial Day is one of the best times of the year to get together, enjoy the warm weather, and celebrate our community. No matter your long weekend plans, we hope it includes spending quality time with friends, family, and loved ones.
