This year, April delivered some warm, sunny days to get us stoked for our colorful state’s next season. With May upon us, we’re looking forward to splashing in Boulder Creek, perusing the aisles of the Boulder County Farmers Market, and a host of other awesome activities coming up in this gorgeous spring month. Here’s what we’re looking forward to:
Outreach Education Pop Up
When: 5/5 – 5/8
Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art provides so much more than thought-provoking art exhibits. Its outreach education program supports schools, libraries, and assisted living facilities by creating opportunities for everyone to engage in artistic expression. This exhibit showcases artwork created by students throughout the 2021-22 school year. Support BMoCA’s great work by adding this event to your calendar.
Kentucky Derby Party
When: 5/7, 1 – 5pm
Where: Hotel St Julien
It’s off to the races at this festive Kentucky Derby Party. Don your best hat and join other Boulderites for the most exciting two minutes in sports. Sip a mint julep, enjoy live music by the Bonnie & Taylor Sims Band, and cheer for your favorite thoroughbred during the Run for the Roses.
UpSlope Get Down
When: 5/7, 2 – 10pm
Where: UpSlope Brewing Company
This year marks the 7th annual UpSlope Get Down. This free music festival creates the perfect opportunity to celebrate Boulder’s changing seasons, gorgeous spring sunshine, and – one of our city’s favorite things – craft beer. Sip a Spiked Snowmelt, make friends, and listen to local live music while chowing down on McDevitt Taco Supply.
Boulder Startup Week
When: 5//9 – 5/13, times vary
Where: Downtown Boulder, venues vary
This free, conference-style event is open to all professionals excited about entrepreneurship, networking, and Boulder’s booming economy. From regenerative agriculture to robotics, Boulder Startup Week showcases it all by inviting speakers from myriad industries, experiences, and locations to share their triumphs and failures with participants.
Nude Foods Market Kids Concert
The marvelous Jeff & Paige are back with summer concerts for kids that engage, excite, and educate. This concert at Nude Foods Market includes vendors of all sorts, including a rummage sale and ‘hard to recycle’ materials drive. What a great way to cap off the weekend and meet other Boulder area families who share a love of fun music, fresh food, and sustainable living.
MCA MAX MIX Runway Show
Where: Asterisk, Denver
In partnership with MAX Clothing Stores, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver is hosting an epic fashion show and benefit. Funds raised will go toward the museum’s teen programs, which serve over 10,000 individuals each year. Enjoy an evening of mixing and mingling with Colorado’s art and fashion-enthusiasts.
Boulder Creek Festival
When: 5/28 – 30
This year’s Boulder Creek Fest will surely be one for the books. After a two-year hiatus, this highly-anticipated springtime festival boasts dozens of musicians at three different stages, offering our city’s residents a plethora of live music to enjoy all weekend long. This year brings a Street Wise Art Battle, a drag show, and an entire beer festival with unlimited tasting.
When: 5/30, start times vary
Where: Downtown Boulder
As one of the largest 10ks in the country, this race is enjoyed by runners and non runners alike. People come out in droves, fully costumed and ready to hit the streets with thousands of other folks who travel from near and far. With 50,000 participants and 100,000 spectators, there’s a spot for everyone to feel the spirit of our city during the legendary BOLDERBoulder.
We are so grateful that some of our favorite events are back in business this year. What a great opportunity for Boulder’s new residents to check out what our Colorado town is all about.
