Spring is finally here and with it come a variety of events happening all around Boulder. Warm weather means there’s no shortage of outdoor festivals, markets, concerts, and more, inviting our lively Boulder community to get outside, try something new, and meet the other inspiring members of our bustling Foothills city. Here’s what we’re excited about:
BETC: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
When: 4/25-5-20, various showtimes
Where: Grace Gamm Theatre, Dairy Arts Center
The Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company brings this Tony Award winning play right to the Dairy Arts Center stage. The play follows 15-year-old Christopher Boone as he sets out across London to discover what, or who, killed his neighbor’s dog. With 30 characters played by 10 actors, the Dairy believes this will be its biggest production accomplishment yet.
MediaLive
When: 4/25-5/27
Where: Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
This year marks the 7th annual MediaLive event at BMoCA. This month-long festival combines digital media, art, and technology into a multi-faceted exhibit. In conjunction with Boulder Startup Week, MediaLive serves as the “Arts Track”. Throughout the event, various exhibits will explore the benefits and pitfalls of modern technology.
Boulder Plein Air Festival
When: 4/28-5/5, various times
Where: various locations
20 master artists set up work stations all over town. With tools in hand, they’ll set out to capture the beauty of Boulder via oils, acrylics, watercolors, and more. Guests can watch experienced painters at work in the outdoors, participate in workshops, or join any of the “Public Paint Outs” throughout Boulder County. Celebrate art and nature with the 3rd annual Boulder Plein Air Festival.
Upslope Get Down
When: 5/11, 2 – 11 pm
Where: Upslope Flatiron Park
This free music festival marries all things Coloradans love – beer, music, art, and food. Upslope is opening up its back parking lot, packing it with food trucks, performers, and three stages that will host live music performances all day long. This event is fun for the whole family, but guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult.
Boulder Startup Week
When: 5/13-5/17, various times
Where: various locations
The 10th annual Boulder Startup Week kicks off mid-May and showcases our community’s start-up companies across various industries. Classes like Digital Marketing 101 and Meaningful Metrics seek to teach Boulder entrepreneurs, tech lovers, and aspiring start-up employees about the intricate world that is a start-up business. Listen to successful, intelligent speakers and meet fellow entrepreneurs during this informative event.
Bluebird Music Festival
When: 5/25, various show times
Where: Macky Auditorium
Bluebird Music Festival hosts an afternoon and an evening event showcasing nationally recognized musicians. Each will play a few songs from their collection and share stories about their inspirations and creative processes for creating the pieces. This intimate event gives guests an insider glimpse at the creative energy behind their favorite musicians.
Boulder Creek Festival
When: 5/25-27
Where: 9th – 14th Street, Arapahoe to Canyon
Memorial Day Weekend packs in a plethora of things to do in and around Boulder. The Creek Festival takes over a good portion of the downtown with vendors, food trucks, concerts, art exhibits, and more. It truly is an all-encompassing festival that showcases Boulder’s talented community and gorgeous natural landscape.
BolderBoulder Road Race
When: 5/27, various start times
Where: Starting Location – Walnut & 30th
Billed as much more than a foot race, the BolderBoulder is one of our city’s most anticipated events. Runners, spectators, and vendors don crazy costumes, colorful wigs, and themed outfits as tribute and in celebration of Boulder’s healthy, fun-loving lifestyle. A 10k around Boulder, the race incorporates various events throughout the course and ends at Folsom Field.
May is certainly an exciting month in Boulder. A wealth of outdoor events feature Boulder in full bloom and inspire our community to once again get outside and enjoy everything Boulder has to offer.
