If you’re looking to experience the burgeoning art scene, expand your craft beer knowledge, or spend time relaxing with friends, the events we share below will keep you entertained all month long.
Into the Woods: A Musical by Stephen Sondheim
When: 3/1 – 3/3, 7:30 pm
Where: University Theatre
This Tony-Award-winning musical reflects on the ‘happy-ever-after’ fantasy contained in children’s books and fairy tales. Stephen Sondheim brings Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood and a variety of other famed characters together as they embark on a quest to seek a happily-ever-after. This tale of misadventure offers a new take on old classics and cautions to be careful what you wish for.
Documenting Change: Our Climate (Past, Present, Future)
When: 3/1 – 7/20, 11 am
Where: CU Art Museum
Documenting Change is a timely piece shedding light on climate change affecting the entire globe. With beautiful cinematography, this film encapsulates the ever-changing environments of our Earth and how humans interact with and are influenced by nature. This work is both educational and emotive, shedding light on the future of our planet.
Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice Exhibit
When: 3/1 – 5/12
Where: Museum of Boulder at the Tebo Center
This exhibit teaches everything there is to know about dinosaurs and their habitats. Children of all ages, as well as adults who are children at heart, are welcome to check out this exhibit. Interact with life-like dinosaur replicas, examine real fossils, and learn about the habitats dating back to 66 million years ago.
The Catamounts: United Flights 232
When: 3/1 – 3/9, various
Where: Dairy Arts Center
Based on a true event, this play recounts the true story of a DC-10 airplane bound for Chicago that crash landed before reaching its final destination. The performance seeks to recount experiences, connections, and heroism enacted by the passengers on board. Don’t miss this powerful piece.
Winter Craft Beer Festival
When: 3/2, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Where: Balch Fieldhouse
If you missed Mountain Sun’s Stout Month, don’t fear – Boulder’s Winter Craft Beer Festival has all the Stouts you care to sample, plus many more wintery offerings. The festival boasts a wide variety of breweries from Colorado classics like Crooked Stave to far flung Floridian brewers like Cigar City Brewing. Warm up with hearty dark beers this March.
Transfixed – Month of Photography
When: 3/2, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: Boulder Creative Collective
The opening reception on March 2 kicks off Boulder Creative Collective’s Month of Photography. 2019’s theme is ‘Transfixed’ and encourages artists to capture spellbound moments of horror, wonder, or astonishments. Mingle with local photographers and art lovers alike at MoP’s opening night.
Mardi Gras 2019
When: 3/5/19
Where: OAK at Fourteenth
For a truly authentic, Louisiana style meal, head down to OAK at Fourteenth for its exquisite, carefully curated menu. With dishes like Crawfish Etouffee, Dirty Duck Fried Rice, and King Cake, OAK gives real meaning to the celebration of Fat Tuesday.

Enjoy March’s brisk nights around the warm bonfire of Rayback Collective. Indulge in New Orleans inspired cuisine from food trucks La Rue Bayou and Crescent City Connection. NOLA inspired drinks like the famed Hurricane and refreshingly tart Abita Purple Haze also make it on the menu. Dinner and drink package tickets are available…come enjoy a Tuesday like no other!
MOTION AND STILLNESS
When: 3/5, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: Dairy Arts Center
Ring in Mardi Gras with the soulful jazz stylings of Mama Roux. Sip themed cocktails and enjoy small bites while dancing along to original takes on Dr. John, The Meters, Fats Domino and others. There’s nothing more authentic than the music of New Orleans to celebrate Fat Tuesday.
Dan Coen: The Migrant Series
When: 3/1 – 5/27
Where: Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
Artist Dan Coen hails from Lamar, Colorado and grew up painting many aspects of ranch and farming life. Eventually, he left Lamar and traveled the world, photographing and painting migrant farm workers, working to capture their images through a dignified, realistic lens. Check out his vibrant works of art this spring at BMoCA.
Opening Reception for Month of Photography
When: 3/7 – 4/14, starting at 5 pm
Where: The Dairy for the Arts
The Month of Photography exhibitions will open on March 7th. At 5:30, the exhibition curators will introduce the artists and briefly discuss the works on view. Light fare for attendees, plus drinks available for purchase. All receptions are free and open to the public. Purchase tickets here.
Trash the Runway
When: 3/12, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Where: Boulder Theater
Common Threads Boulder will host its 10th annual Trash the Runway fashion show. Students from Boulder County schools spend six weeks creating high fashion pieces from recycled goods. Attire is made out of candy wrappers, duct tape, and more. Check out their final masterpieces in this inspiring runway show that I’m excited and honored to be sponsoring.
St. Patrick’s Day Fun
When: 3/17, 9:00 am
Where: Boulder Reservoir
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by participating in a 5k or 10k run at the Res. After working up a sweat, stroll over to Avery’s beer garden and sip on a post-race brew. This is a great way to enjoy all Boulder has to offer – the great outdoors, fun loving community, and delicious craft beer.
The stretch from winter to spring can begin to grow a little weary as we wait for warmer hiking and biking weather. Shake off the winter time blues by hitting up any one of these Boulder events and you’re sure to make new friends and learn more about our fabulous city.
