
Spring is right around the corner, and with it arrives numerous events to celebrate Boulder’s vibrant, colorful community and outdoor spaces. Keep warm indoors at multiple film festivals or step outside to say “au revoir” to winter. Here are some March events we are looking forward to!
Boulder Jewish Film Festival
When: 3/4 – 3/15, various screenings
Where: The Dairy Arts Center
Join local and international filmmakers for the 8th Annual Boulder Jewish Film Festival. Each year, cinematographers, directors, and writers gather to display heartwarming and thought-provoking films that highlight Jewish culture, experiences, religion, and more. Tickets to this event often sell out quickly so additional showtimes have been added. Interested parties may learn more, here.
Boulder International Film Festival
When: 3/5 – 3/8
Where: Multiple locations in Boulder and Longmont
Named one of the top 25 coolest film festivals in the world, Boulder International Film Festival consistently draws a lively crowd. This year, films include uplifting documentaries like “The Dog Doc” in which a determined veterinarian treats hopeless canines with holistic treatments, effectively saving the lives of many beloved animals. The festival will also show intriguing and thought-provoking feature films like “Deerskin” and “Mr. Jones”, in which each respective protagonist embarks on a journey with death, life, and meaning. Wings of Spring: Waterfowl Watching
When: 3/14, 7:30 – 10:30 am
Where: Sawhill Ponds, 75th & Valmont
As Colorado grows warmer, southern breeding grounds heat up as well, sending many winged inhabitants flying north. Fortunately for audubon-enthusiasts, Sawhill Ponds is a pit-stop for many winged creatures on their trip. Join naturalist Dave Sutherland and fellow bird-watchers on a chilly spring morning to catch glimpses of migrating ducks, geese, and shorebirds.
Trash the Runway
When: 3/17, 7:00 pm
Where: Macky Auditorium
Formerly known as Recycled Runway, Trash the Runway – Recycled Couture is an annual independent study workshop for students in grades 6-12 put on by the Common Threads Creative Lab. Perfect for the whole family, this event is not to be missed.
Open Wall
When: 3/27, 5:30 – 8:00 pm
Where: Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
Support Boulder’s vibrant art scene at this free community event. As a self-curated exhibition, local artists showcase and sell their own work. Guests can mingle with their favorite painters, sculptors, and more while bidding on an original piece of art to hang above the fireplace. Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.
Boulder Arts Week
When: 3/27 – 4/4, various times
Where: throughout Boulder
Celebrate our city’s vibrant group of artists at this festival focused on uplifting and supporting the creative community. For seven full days, free and discounted events will take place around the city that feature local dancers, writers, speakers, painters, and other artists as they do what they do best — share beauty with the world. Participate in art walks, attend performances, or interact at workshops all week long. See the full schedule here.
