Summer is on its way, with it, opportunities to participate in many events in Boulder. Our city is brimming with exciting and engaging experiences all year round, but I’m especially looking forward to a few of the options outlined below:
Frida’s Wings
When: 6/7, 6/8
Where: Dairy Arts Center
Frida Kahlo is one of the most intriguing artists of the 20th century. On June 7th and 8th, Danse Etoile Ballet will pay homage to the life and art of this exceptional painter. Through dance, the performers will explore the symbolism of her pieces and other facets of her complicated and colorful life and work. Both performances occur at the Dairy Arts Center; tickets are available here.
Gallery Concert: Live Jazz at SmithKlein
When: 6/13
Where: SmithKlein Gallery
If you love art and jazz, you won’t want to miss out on a live performance by bassist Eddie Ness and his combo at SmithKlein Gallery. This gallery is one of the most prestigious art venues in town and is located on Pearl Street in the heart of downtown Boulder. As you explore an eclectic mix of high-quality work by local artists, you can enjoy the complimentary concert by an extraordinarily talented jazz combo.
Flatiron Sounds Music Festival
When: 6/16
Where: Chautauqua Park
The debut of Flatiron Sounds is sure to be an exciting day. This brand-new music festival will set up shop at Chautauqua Park on June 16th from 1:00-7:00 p.m. and will feature an impressive lineup of musicians. In addition to awesome live performances, an artisan market, great food from local restaurants, and a beer garden will be on-site.
Juneteenth Liberation Day Celebration with Rocky Mountain Equality
When: 6/20
Where: Museum of Boulder
Juneteenth commemorates the official abolition of slavery in the United States. This holiday is now federally celebrated, also called Freedom Day or Black Independence Day. On June 20th, the Museum of Boulder and Rocky Mountain Equality invite you to participate in a celebration of black resilience and bright futures for QTPOC. During this event, you’ll be able to engage in enlightening discussions and enjoy drag performances, dancing, and poetry readings. Light refreshments are provided. Pridefest
When: 6/30
Where: Boulder Central Park
Pridefest in Boulder is always a treat. This event takes place on June 30th, and all are welcome! The festivities run from 11:30 am until 5:00 pm, so feel free to arrive early and stay all day. There will be many activities, plus merchandise galore from wonderful vendors and delicious food.
