
The summer solstice has passed and the total eclipse of the sun isn’t until August, but packed between those astronomical wonders are the dog days of summer. In July, Boulder is filled with exciting events (and not just July 4th festivities). Here’s a brief rundown of what we’re most looking forward to this month:
When: July 4, gates open at 8 p.m. and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.
Where: Folsom Field on the University of Colorado Boulder campus
This year, enjoy the largest fireworks display in Boulder with the 76th annual Ralphie’s Independence Day Blast at Folsom Field. As thousands descend upon the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field, enjoy live music, countless food and drink vendors, and of course, the celebration of our nation’s independence.
The British Museum Presents: Hokusai, beyond the Great Wave
When: Sunday, July 9 and Wednesday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m.
Where: The Boedecker Theater, The Dairy Center for the Arts
Enjoy this fascinating documentary that offers an exclusive preview of the upcoming exhibit, “Hokusai, beyond the Great Wave” set to premier later this year at the British Museum. Filmed in 8k Ultra HD, explore the world and work of one of Japan’s greatest artists: Katsushika Hokusai.
SmithKlein Gallery Presents New Works by Renowned Abstract Artist Peter Burega
When: Friday, July 14 through Monday, July 31 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Opening Reception of the Vibrant Femmes Gallery Exhibition

Enjoy an exciting showcase of four female artists who are transforming the art world: Carol Ann Wachter, Liz Quan, Madeleine Tonzi, and Michelle Miller. A common theme throughout this exhibition is the focus on dynamic color demanding the viewer to explore his or her own ideas of form and space. Complete with live music, this opening reception also includes the dedication of madelife’s brand new public wall murals.
Daniel “The Lion” Day Vodka Tasting Fundraiser
When: Sunday, July 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Where: Sill Terhar Lamborghini Showroom 150 Alter Street, Broomfield, CO 80020
Daniel “The Lion” Day was started in 2014 by Daniel and Jacquenette Jaramillo to honor their late son Daniel and the community that supported them during their 14-month struggle with baby Daniel’s health. This event aims to help families struggling with loss through a celebration of life by way of vodka tastings, a molecular nitro food station, silent auction, and more.
When: Friday, July 28 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The BMoCA partners with The Dairy Arts Center, CU Art Museum, madelife, Boulder Creative Collective, Boulder Digital Arts, Mr. Pool, Inc., and NoBo Arts District on the last Friday of each month to showcase a dazzling array of artistic mastery. Exhibitions include art making, circus performers, dream-reading and more for this once a month exposé on the best of Boulder’s diverse art community.
