After the holidays, it’s nice to stay home, reset, and recharge, spending time in our town and reconnecting with the community. January will bring a smattering of exciting events to Boulder, giving our residents great ways to get outside, learn something new, and meet people they may not have crossed paths with otherwise. Here’s what we’re putting on our calendar this month.
Erin Hyunhee Kang: A Home In Between
When: 1/1 – 1/31
Where: Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
Erin Hyunhee Kang explores spaces of diaspora as metaphors for her identity and life’s path. A painter, graphic designer, and illustrator, Kang’s work captures the duality and clash she feels between her Eastern heritage and residence in the United States. Fragmented landscapes, serene scenes, and chaotic moments are captured through her perspective and shared with others via “A Home In Between”.
30-Day Cleanse Kick-Off Meeting
When: 1/8, 1/22, 1/31, times vary
Where: Yoga Pearl
Start the year off right with knowledge and support to leave bad habits behind in 2022. For a full body detox, sign up for this 30-Day cleanse hosted and led by Yoga Pearl. Follow the guidebook “Optimal Health for a Vibrant Life” written by Tiffany Cruikshank as participants eliminate sugar, dairy, alcohol, caffeine, and meat for at least the month of January. Miss the first class? No worries. Attend the next and extend your cleanse into February to still reap the numerous benefits.
Closing: Pikas, Prairies, and the Climate Crisis
When: 1/1 – 1/8
Where: Museum of Boulder
The Colorado Pika Project looks at the connections between Colorado’s prairies and the adorable yet resilient American pika. These high-altitude animals’ habitats are threatened by climate change and warming temperatures. Scientists and photographers have come together to create a visually stunning and intellectually captivating exhibit on the crucial connection between the Great Plains and how the health of this large swath of land – hundreds of miles’ from Pika habitats – has a dramatic impact on their existence.
Dvorak’s New World Symphony
When: 1/13 & 1/14, show times vary
Where: Dairy Arts Center
Many great artists will come together this January to perform beautiful music, created by Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. In 1892, Dvořák predicted that the future of music would come from traditional roots based in African American spirituality. In this spirit, Dvořák implemented American styles and folk music to create the first “American” symphony of the “New World”. Don’t miss this magical and inspiring performance.
THE CLIMB Watch Party
When: 1/26, 6 – 9pm
Where: The Boulder Theater
THE CLIMB, airing on HBO on January 12, follows Jason Momoa and legendary rock climber Chris Sharma as they explore the foundations of this beloved sport and the boundless passion of the human spirit. Cozy up at home and watch episodes as they air, then grab a ticket to the season finale, presented by prAna, Chris Sharma and Meagan Martin. The first 30 people in the door get an embroidered prAna chalk bag.
Expand your perspective, laugh with others, and get out of the house this January. Participating in community events is a great way to feel connected, invest in Boulder, and ensure that our city continues to grow and thrive.
