
December and the last of 2021 has really flown by. This January, Boulder residents will be treated to a host of events that bring music, laughter, and more to our back doors. Here’s what we’re most looking forward to next month.
Snow Much Fun Light Display
When: Through January 9th
Where: Boulder Civic Area
If you missed the bulk of Christmas light displays, have no fear. Boulder keeps its lights up through the new year. Take a chilly stroll along the Pearl Street Mall during the first week of January to catch themed displays and historic buildings all lit up. Squeeze in some final festive photo ops and the last of holiday cheer.
The Polar Plunge
When: TBD
Where: Boulder Reservoir
On the first day of every year, hundreds of folks gather in their swim wear on the banks of Boulder Reservoir, waiting to take the plunge. If you’ve never experienced this event, now’s your chance. Not only do you get the opportunity to run into freezing cold water in a costume, bathing suit, or onesie, but your ticket also helps raise money for cancer through the American Cancer Society. What a fantastic way to start your year off right.
New Moon Yoga and Sound Bath
When: 1/2, 4 – 5pm
Where: Yoga Pearl
If your resolutions include anything related to mental and physical health, you can start by participating in this cool class. New Moon Restorative Yoga + Sound Bath at Yoga Pearl blends both physical poses and soothing sounds to transport guests to a world away. Meditate through this practice and come out on the other side feeling ready to take on the new year.
Writing with Fire

Where: Boedecker Theater
This documentary follows a team of Indian female journalists who are undergoing a shift to digital reporting and news coverage. Throughout the documentary, the reporters undergo both professional and personal changes all set to the backdrop of India’s changing political landscape.
Opening Night: Natasha Mistry
When: 1/11
Where: Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
Acclaimed visual artist Natasha Mistry is showcasing many of her gorgeous works in an upcoming exhibit titled, “Imagineria”. Take in eye-catching watercolors, unique ink designs, and deep, rich oil paintings. Mistry believes that painting is to journey into one’s soul and uses her craft to search the very depths of her imagination and being. Witness true works of art up close during opening night.
Opening Night: Boulder Philharmonic
When: 1/22, 7:30pm
Where: Macky Auditorium
Embrace classical music during the opening night of the Boulder Philharmonic this January. Celebrate the musical compositions of Gershwin performed by the Marcus Roberts Trio. Listen to Gershwin’s famous travelogue, An American in Paris, as presented by the talented Boulder Philharmonic.
