Happy New Year, Boulder! Now that the peak of the busy holiday season is behind us, treat yourself to some of the exciting happenings around town in January 2017. Here’s what’s on our to-do lists for the month ahead:
When: Friday, January 6; Sunday, January 29
Where: Dairy Arts Center
Before Jazz at the Dairy began, jazz performances in the Boulder/Denver area were mainly located in cocktail settings. This isn’t the case with Jazz at the Dairy, which is answering the call for true performance-style jazz in the area that’s not exclusively in a cocktail setting. This month, experience two of Boulder’s best acts in the beautiful Gordon Gamm Theater (which was formerly known as the Performance Space). The season kicks off on Friday, January 6, when Robert Johnson and the Boulder Blues Quartet showcases its signature blues, funk, and soul music. On Sunday, January 29, Zach Brock, a world-famous violinist, comes to town with his trio, Triptych. Comprised of Zach Brock, bassist Matt Ulery, and drummer Jon Deitemyer, they’ll dazzle you with their music, which draws from jazz, pop, and classical genres.
When: Saturday, January 7, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Where: Boulder Reservoir
While the idea of plunging into the freezing cold waters of the Boulder Reservoir may not be immediately appealing, the fact that it’s for a good cause may change your mind! Participants are all encouraged to raise at least $100 for the American Cancer Society. Founded in 1983, the plunge has become a longstanding tradition here in Boulder. If you love the idea but can’t make the plunge yourself, come watch and cheer on the others!
When: Wednesday, January 11, 7:30 p.m.
Where: Dairy Arts Center
Treat yourself to an evening of comedy with Dana Gould, presented by Dairy Comedy and Comedy Works Entertainment. You may recognize Gould from his work on Comedy Central, HBO, or Showtime, or his appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, or Conan. Don’t miss his only stop in Boulder as he performs across the country. If you’re unfamiliar with his work, check out his monthly podcast, The Dana Gould Show, before grabbing your tickets.
Date Nights at Food Lab Boulder
When: Saturday, January 14 and Saturday, January 21, 6 p.m.
Where: Food Lab Boulder
