
Coined in 1984, the phrase “midcentury modern” encompasses a particular style of architecture, industrial design, and graphic design that rose to prominence during the middle of the 20th century. While the original movement lasted roughly from the early 1930s to mid 1960s, a resurgence of interest in the style appeared in the ‘80s, which carried over into the present day. Yet despite the immense popularity of midcentury modern in the contemporary design world, the term itself eludes explicit definition.
