Film on the Rocks is returning to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre for the 26th year. This summer tradition, a collaboration between Denver Film and Denver Arts & Venues, showcases five films, features live comedy sets, and invites families to enjoy comedies, animation, and timeless adventures.
Event attendees are welcome to bring blankets, stadium seats, food, water bottles, and nonalcoholic drinks (you can learn more about what’s allowed and restricted here), and open captions are available for every screening.
The Need-to-Know Details
Film on the Rocks occurs on five Mondays during June, July, and August at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado. Tickets are $25 each, and doors open at 6:30 PM. Live entertainment begins at 7:00 PM, with films starting at dusk. You can buy tickets here.

June 9th: 2001: A Space Odyssey
Directed by Stanley Kubrick, this film explores humankind’s evolution and the notion that we’re not alone in the universe. With AI themes throughout, it remains a classic story that feels relevant to the present day.
June 23rd: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Captain Jack Sparrow returns to the choppy seas, this time teaming up with Will Turner to rescue the governor’s daughter. Full of charm, wit, and plenty of undead pirates, this film provides a wild ride.
June 30th: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971 film)
Charlie is one of five fortunate children who find a golden ticket and earn the opportunity to visit a magical chocolate factory. Here, they face a series of whimsical challenges, colorful characters, and Willy Wonka, an eccentric chocolatier.
July 7th: Legally Blonde
Elle Woods, a fashion-obsessed party girl, follows her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School. Hoping to find true love, she discovers herself instead and develops a passion for law. With themes of self-confidence, female friendship, and fish-out-of-water successes, this nearly 25-year-old film remains a guilty pleasure.
August 18th: Shrek 2
Celebrating the return of everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek 2 is filled with familiar fairytale characters— including Prince Charming and Puss in Boots— and the lovable mishaps they bring. The plot centers around the overbearing nature of Fiona’s royal parents.
Whether you’re a cinephile, a fan of the great outdoors, or simply looking for something to do on an ordinary Monday, Film on the Rocks provides a picture-perfect way to enjoy a Colorado evening in a majestic setting.
