DINEinBoulder: 100% Mexicano Restaurante

Most of us can agree that going to get our drivers licenses renewed is a tedious, time consuming, and completely un-enjoyable activity that we dread doing.  Luckily for us Boulderites, going to the DMV has now become an activity worth looking forward to, and it’s all thanks to 100% Mexicano Restaurante.

100% Mexicano Restaurante is an authentic Mexican restaurant located at 2850 Iris Avenue, in the same shopping center as the DMV. Their excellent cuisine has become so well known around town, that they were recently voted “Best Mexican Restaurant,” by Boulder County Gold People’s Choice Awards.

Owner and chef Lucy Arellano is known around town as the best Mexican cook in Boulder.  She has put her heart and soul into this establishment, and it shows.  Every recipe used by the kitchen is hers, adding another special touch.  100% Mexicano Restaurante is her pride and joy, and, she’s practically always there.  Walk in on any day of the week and you’re likely to run into her.

100% Mexicano Restaurante offers a variety of authentic dishes, including tacos, tortas, tamales, and ceviche.  It’s rumored that their mole is a must-have. They even offer a weekly special, which happens to be a Mojarra Frita that looks quite fantastic.

In addition to the food, Lucy and her staff offer a selection of unique alcoholic beverages.  Take, for instance, the Vampiro: a spicy, carbonated cocktail made with Tequila, Squirt, Tabasco, and freshly squeezed lime juice.  Interesting to say the least, but definitely worth trying.  Not in the mood for alcohol?  Not a problem.  They also serve Horchata, cantaloupe juice, Jamaican flower juice, and a selection of other, all natural fruit juices.

Not only is their food so authentic that it makes you feel like you’re sitting at a restaurant in downtown Sayulita, it’s inexpensive as well.  Their dishes range from $2.00 to $10.00, making this a perfect haven for college students, as well as anyone else on a budget.

The restaurant is open 7 days a week, and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  They also have a happy hour from 3-6 (Monday through Friday) that offers a different special each day.  On Margarita Monday, for instance, patrons can enjoy $4 margaritas, and free chips and salsa.  Come in on Miercoles Wednesday, and enjoy $1.50 tamales, $3.50 cheese quesadillas, and $4.00 chicken quesadillas.

100% Mexicano Restaurante also has live music, Thursday through Saturday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.  Come see Holly y Los Esposos as they play American Jazz on Thursdays, Chon y Carmelo on Fridays for Latin Acoustic music, and La Petite Chantuese on Saturdays for Latin and French acoustic cabaret music.  What better way to enjoy your dinner than with live music?

No matter what type of Mexican food you might be craving, 100% Mexicano Restaurante will have a dish that will leave you happy, satisfied, and wanting more.  They’re open Monday through Wednesday from 10:00am to 8:00pm, Thursday through Saturday from 10:00am to 9:00pm, and Sundays from 9:00am to 6:00pm.  So bring you friends, your family, or just yourself down to 100% Mexicano Restaurante for delicious, authentic Mexican food and drink.
