Parents Weekend at CU Boulder gives enrolled students the chance to show off their esteemed school. From 10/3 to 10/6, parents visiting CU will enjoy our picturesque mountain city in all its autumn glory. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet renowned professors, tour the campus, attend classes, and more. The pinnacle of this celebrated four-day stretch culminates in a lively Buffs football game, but there are a whole host of activities throughout Parents Weekend that offer visitors an authentic Boulder experience. Here are our favorites.
When: 10/3, 3-4 pm
Where: Old Main Auditorium
CU’s campus boasts beautiful, historic buildings, each with their own interesting stories. This architecture tour explores the design, commission, and construction of some of the school’s most notable buildings. Participants will receive a walking tour of the grounds, learning about campus design elements and the university’s future plans for development.
When: showtimes vary
Where: Fiske Planetarium
Throughout the weekend, Fiske Planetarium, located in the heart of Boulder, will be showing a variety of films. Travel to Jupiter or witness Fiske’s abstract music and art show in the high-tech, 8K theater. Surround sound and a giant screen encompass the senses, elevating a typical movie-going experience to an immersive, engaging event that guests won’t soon forget.
When: 10/4, 7-8:30 pm
Where: 1300 block of Pearl Street
Parents can join CU Buffs in this age-old, home game tradition. Each weekend in preparation for a rousing football game, students, cheerleaders, the Golden Buffs Marching Band, football players, and coaches parade along Boulder’s famous Pearl Street, stopping to perform at each block. Celebrate with the team and root for a victory!
When: 10/6, 9-11 am
Where: University Memorial Center
Boulder’s mountainous terrain, plentiful pathways, and active lifestyle are some of our city’s most beloved assets. What better way to breath in refreshing mountain air than at an early morning 3.1 mile run? Dust off those sneakers and get ready to pound the pavement with hundreds of other Buffs students, parents, and staff.
When: 10/6, 11 am-6 pm
Where: Central Park
Once parents have explored all that the university has to offer, take advantage of a stroll along Boulder Creek to Central Park; artisans from around the state gather to display and sell their creations. From fine handmade leather goods to ornate pottery, guests are bound to discover beautiful treasures at this fair. Take home a little something to commemorate the weekend and support the local creative community.
CU Boulder offers plenty of ways for parents and students to maximize the fun during Parents Weekend 2019. In addition to these planned activities, explore Boulder’s famous Flatirons on one of the numerous hiking trails, or grab a bite at any of Pearl Street’s top-rated restaurants. Visitors are sure to fall in love with our mountain haven.
