There’s no denying it: social distancing makes celebrating holidays very difficult. With Mother’s Day right around the corner, children of all ages must get a little creative when determining how to celebrate mom. While we may not be able to gather in person, there are still plenty of ways to show our love and appreciation. Here are some safe and fun ways to celebrate Mother’s Day this year.
Plan a Group Video Call
Gather siblings, grandchildren, and any other members of your family on Zoom for a lively group celebration. Ask everyone to bring their favorite photo of mom to share with the gang. Or, request that all participants come ready to tell their most treasured memories of the family’s matriarch. If you really want to get creative, ask that family members dress up in accordance with a certain theme that is special to your mom. Take it one step further and play one of mom’s favorite games as a group!
Send a Thoughtful Gift
While we may not be able to present gifts in person, sending a special something is a fantastic way to say thank you and support local businesses. Give her a gift card to a local Boulder spa, retailer, or restaurant so that she may splurge on something special for herself when businesses open up again. Create a photo album with pictures of family gatherings, including previous Mother’s Day events, and mail it to her. She’ll love reminiscing over the special bond mother’s have with their children.
Make a Video
If you have siblings, ask that they submit their favorite video clips, photos, and memories of mom toreate a video montage of mom through the years.Video editing apps makes it easy to set photos to music, splice together live snippets, and create a professional-looking short movie all about mom.
Schedule a Drive-By Celebration
Make posters, tie balloons to car mirrors, and use window paint to decorate your vehicle and drive by mom’s house first thing Sunday morning. Coordinate with everyone special in your mom’s life so that a parade of cars shows up to wish her well.
Get Her Favorite Food Delivered
Many of us celebrate this special holiday by going out for a tasty brunch or elegant dinner. Since restaurants cannot currently offer indoor dining, order take out from her favorite spot. Boulder’s numerous delicious restaurants are still offering their standard menu available for take-out or delivery. You may even want to schedule a video call during the meal to feel as if everyone is eating together.
While many of these ideas take a little forethought and pre-planning, mom will feel extra special this Mother’s Day. This altered reality has taken its toll on us all – meantally, physically, and emotionally. In order to make it through, we have to continue reaching out, celebrating, and being grateful for one another – especially our mothers.
