Although Boulder is regarded as one of the best places in the nation to live, you never know when the unexpected may occur. In the event of an attack, you should have the ability to protect yourself. Fortunately, Boulder and the surrounding areas have excellent self-defense courses for all individuals. Interested in taking some classes so you know what to do if trouble comes your way? Here are a few options for residents here:
Battle Woman
Battle Woman is a fantastic resource for women in Boulder. Founded by personal safety expert Rachel Mahloch (aka Battle Mom), the Battle brand provides a holistic approach to self-defense and self-care. This multifaceted approach helps individuals develop physical, mental, and verbal skills that can be used in many different situations–which are all critical for confidence. Battle Woman offers public group classes, private training, and workshops right here in town.
Way of the Crane
If you’re looking for a self-defense class that incorporates elements of martial arts, check out StreetWize Self-Defense Workshops provided by Way of the Crane. Way of the Crane is one of the oldest martial arts schools in Boulder, and has been owned and operated by Sensei Melanie Murphy since 1983. There are several different options for self-defense classes here, ranging from an introductory one-hour course to more comprehensive and intensive workshops.
10th Planet Boulder
10th Planet Boulder is located in Louisville. This studio offers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which helps participants hone their self-defense skills through footwork and body positioning. The instructors at 10th Planet Boulder teach students how to target an attacker’s weaknesses and develop the confidence to handle any situation.
Viking Protection Services
If you’re looking for hardcore training to prepare yourself for a worst-case scenario, Viking Protection Services provides specialized services for real-world self-defense. Although it’s not technically in Boulder County, this Denver-based studio is the only one of its kind around. Many of the classes here are intense, where participants can learn how to protect themselves during a knife attack and pick up defensive driving strategies.
If you ever find yourself in a precarious situation, it helps to know you can defend yourself. Investing in self-defense classes can help you think on your feet and physically protect yourself, which can make all the difference if you ever need to implement these skills. We’re fortunate to have excellent self-defense instructors in the Boulder area, so consider these options when you’re ready to find a class.
