April is Move More Month! Previously known as National Walking Day, this month is promoted by the American Heart Association to help Americans get more exercise for heart health. As we all have heard, regular physical activity is a must for creating strong bones, a healthy heart, and improving mental and emotional well-being. That being said, logging those hours of movement can be easier said than done. If you’d like to take part in Move More Month, you couldn’t ask for a better city than Boulder. Whether you prefer the great outdoors or you’re more interested in a traditional Boulder fitness class, there are a plethora of ways to start making movement a habit. Need some inspiration? Here are a few of my favorite ways to get moving:
Get Personalized Instruction at OPEX Element 6
OPEX Element 6 offers a remarkable approach to fitness. If you’re looking for a one-stop-shop for wellness, this is the place. It all begins with a consultation and assessment to get a feel for where you are and where you want to be. With your goals in mind, your fitness instructor will create a plan tailored to your needs and aspirations. It doesn’t stop there, as lifestyle support is a big part of the appeal of OPEX gyms. The OPEX here in Boulder offers nutritional guidance, as well as massage therapy and acupuncture.
Get Your Climb on at Movement Gym
Boulder started the rock climbing trend way back in the early 1900s as one of the earliest cities to participate in recorded climbing. This tradition is carried on at Movement Gym, which opened in the heart of Boulder in 2009. At this incredible 22,000 square-foot facility, you can climb to great heights as you improve your physical fitness and technical skills. If you’re not feeling up to climbing, you can also take part in yoga strength condition classes here.
Hike Mount Sanitas
Boulder offers incredible access to natural beauty, so it’s no surprise that many residents here can’t get enough of the local hike and bike trails. If you’re looking for a spot that’s dog-friendly and poses a bit of a challenge, you’ll want to check out Mount Sanitas. This 3.2-mile loop is open year round and is beloved for its stunning views.
Try a Kickboxing Class
Looking for a high-intensity workout that’s also a ton of fun? Kickboxing may be just the program for you! Boulder offers several kickboxing venues, including popular studios like Total Fitness Kickboxing and Tran’s Martial Arts and Fitness Center. The classes taught at these gyms are high-energy group classes that always leave you feeling empowered.
HIIT It All at Kondition Fitness
If you enjoy group classes but you don’t want to commit to just one type of exercise, you’ll want to check out Kondition Fitness. This studio offers Barre, HIIT, Spin, Strength, and Yoga all under one roof. Whether you’re looking to mix it up on a daily basis or primarily focus on one modality, this studio is a fantastic option.
We’re already halfway through April, but it’s never too late to commit to healthier practices. Move More Month was created to help us be more mindful of movement, and Boulder fitness offers excellent opportunities to truly enjoy exercise. When you love what you’re doing, it’s so much easier to stick with it. I hope you’ll check out some of the recommendations highlighted here and participate in Move More Month, whatever that may look like for you.
