Film Festivals
One of the top opportunities to connect within Boulder’s film scene is the Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF). Held each spring, BIFF attracts filmmakers and cinema fans from around the world for a weekend of screenings, panels, and special events. With post-film Q&As and filmmaker receptions, it’s easy to start a conversation. Save the date: BIFF runs from April 9-12, 2026.
Moondance International Film Festival is another option worth exploring. This fall festival often visits Boulder and offers a welcoming space for everyone. Moondance International Film Festival is especially focused on amplifying women’s voices and highlighting diverse perspectives.
And, of course, we’re all eagerly looking forward to the iconic Sundance Film Festival in 2027.
Art Spaces
Creatives of all kinds will find a “home” in our lively artistic community. Crowd Collective, located in the NoBo Art District, is an artist-run studio and gallery known for its First Friday art walks and creative social events. Activities like Drink and Draw are relaxed ways to meet other artistically inclined people—many of whom are interested in video, animation, or storytelling.
Another great option is the Junkyard Social Club, which hosts everything from immersive performances to special networking events. During Boulder Arts Week, the Speed Networking for Creatives event brings together anyone interested in the arts for a fast-paced yet fun environment designed to build connections. Bring business cards if you have them!
Writing and Storytelling Groups
Writers looking to collaborate should check out the Boulder Writers Alliance. This group regularly hosts networking events and workshops that are open to all writers (as well as groups like Writers Who Read). No matter your background or specialty, you’re welcome to join. It provides a supportive space to share your work and receive valuable feedback.
Dairy Arts Center also hosts writers’ workshops, including the Fireside Ink Writers Workshop. Popular sessions include the Lunch Break Writing Session on Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 pm and the Happy Hour Draft Exchange on the first Thursday of each month.
