For fans of Halloween’s spookier side, Boulder County haunted houses will scare and delight. As the air grows crisp and the leaves turn gold, the allure of local haunted houses beckons thrill-seekers, curious souls and Halloween’s biggest fans. Brave creaking floorboards, ominous shadows, and unknown creatures lurking around each bend of these haunted attractions in and around Boulder County.
Haunted Stage Shop
Who wouldn’t want to visit a haunted attraction where they take a tally of “pants peed” each year? Last year’s count at this Rollinsville terror was 14, and the host of horrors curated throughout this Haunted Stage Shop means they’ll likely meet (and perhaps exceed!) this number again. Monsters, ghosts, goblins and ghouls lurk in each room of this haunted house built in 1868. Grab a group of courageous friends and make an evening out of it.
The Empty Grave Haunted House
Located in downtown Longmont, The Empty Grave tells the tale of The Longmont Foods Co. During its heyday in the 1950s, it was cranking out “meat” at unbeatable prices, but something wasn’t exactly right. This short, but spooky, haunted house invites guests to discover what’s really going on at this defunct factory. Special effects, animatronics and live actors promise to make this walk-through a frighteningly good time.
Terror in the Corn
Year after year, Terror in the Corn consistently ranks as one of the state’s (and nation’s) best-haunted attractions – and for good reason. Over a mile of terrifying oddities tucked throughout a winding corn maze await the bravest of guests. This spooky attraction eventually leads fright enthusiasts to the deserted city of Ravens Gulch, where they must make their way through abandoned buildings and dark alleys, facing down nightmarish figures.
The Frightmare Compound
Just down the road from Boulder in Westminster sits The Frightmare Compound, a haunted attraction with all sorts of activities for adults and children over 12. Problem-solve in its Halloween-themed escape rooms or pick your way through its house of horrors, avoiding the lost souls trapped between this world and the next. For the most courageous in your crew, take a “coffin simulator ride” and discover what it feels like to get buried alive.
Some of these sound downright terrifying, but others certainly pique our curiosity. Make the most out of this month by experiencing something new, exciting and a little bit spooky.
