One of the most exciting and unique running events will be taking place here in Boulder this Memorial Day. The 36th annual BolderBOULDER is an all-inclusive, pro-wheelchair 10K race that will include over 50,000 runners from all over the world.
It’s no surprise that in our physically active city we’ve managed to create such a popular running event. Because it’s open to participants of all abilities and ages, the BB attracts a diverse crowd with individuals at various skill levels. The race is split up into over 90 waves based on participants’ racing capabilities or speeds. This allows everyone from elite runners to leisurely walkers to race at their own pace.
The Memorial Day race will be made up of an eclectic group featuring local residents and runners from around the globe. Local racers include many CU Boulder fans and alumni, who may run in their own designated wave called “Run With The Buffs.” In previous years, BB has also attracted athletes from many different countries including Ethiopia, Kenya, Guatemala, Peru, Japan, and Australia.
While the race draws in both professional and recreational contestants, it is also a great event for sports spectators and festival goers. Besides being able to watch and cheer on those participating in the race, onlookers can also enjoy plenty of entertainment along the sidelines. More than 30 bands will be lined up along the course, which starts on Walnut and 30th and finishes at Folsom Field. The live music helps to give the race its fun and celebratory energy, which is why so many runners and non-runners love coming out for BB.

But the BB isn’t the only exciting thing happening in Boulder that weekend—the Boulder Creek Festival is also taking place during Memorial Day. The 3-day outdoor celebration will feature a variety of activities, local vendors, many food and beverage options, as well as live entertainment. BCF takes place in Downtown Boulder, stretching from 9th to 14th between Canyon and Arapahoe, alongside Boulder Creek.
On Monday May 25th the Boulder Creek Festival will coincide with the BolderBOULDER, creating an electrifying atmosphere that will kickoff the summer in a major way. Boulder will be buzzing with many wonderful outdoor activities during the summer, but few other events will draw out the crowds like the BB and BCF. From fitness buffs to outdoor festival goers, everyone can commemorate Memorial Day with these two exceptional events in Boulder.
