It’s hard to think about summer when the temperature plunges and the sun sets before the 5 o’clock news. But warmer months are just around the corner (…several corners) and school will be out before most of us even know it.
In fact, registration for summer camp has already begun. So, whether your child needs something to assuage their obligatory summertime boredom or your New Year’s resolution is to take more time for yourself, start your search engines and sign up!
Here’s a list of choices to get you started:
Avid Adventure
Nothing says summer like spending all day in the great outdoors. Avid Adventure is on a mission to help kids swap out streaming for exploring actual streams. True to its name, it offers jam-packed adventure in the form of either day camps or overnight stays. Avid Adventure organizes its activities around the core sports of biking, paddling, climbing, and hiking. It’s a great choice for kids who are full of energy, as well as those who could use more sunscreen and less screen time.
Thorne Nature Experience
The Thorne Nature Experience has been praising prairie dogs and lauding ladybugs for over 60 years. The camps are designed for preschoolers to high school students and offer plenty of flexibility with lots of variety for curious minds.
A few topics on the 2022 calendar include birdwatching, wildlife tracking, scouting and survival skills, tool-building, storytelling, water filtration, and wilderness cooking.
Code Ninjas
Code Ninjas has various locations across the Front Range and gives kids a chance to hone their skills behind the keyboard. These ninjas put down their swords and embrace JavaScript, instead! Code Ninjas is open year-round, offering a variety of classes (and a drop-in program).. But summer provides a chance for kids to explore many code-based camps day after day when repetition is more likely to make things stick.
There are camps dedicated to everything from programming Minecraft to coding Roblox, from creating videos for YouTube to stop motion animation. You can choose a different camp each session and opt for morning or afternoon time slots.
CU Science Discovery
CU Science Discovery allows kids to go full STEM ahead! Designed for children from kindergarten to senior year of high school, these camps are flush with remarkable stimulation.
Classes are taught by instructors and include members of the CU faculty and many offer both virtual and in-person sessions. Some of the topics kids can choose from include backpacking skills, digital arts, biotechnology, applied programming, aerospace, nature, robotics, wizardry, dinosaurs, and video production. There’s even a class dedicated to Star Wars. May this course be with you!
Kidcreate Studios
Kidcreate Studios offers art camps for different age groups. Younger kids explore the basic principles of painting and drawing while older kids experiment with more advanced techniques and complex mediums.
Kidcreate uses an award-winning curriculum to help children stoke the embers of their imagination and pique their inner Picasso. They also cater to children as young as three, which means your toddler can experiment with paint in a studio instead of in your living room.
Whether your kids are mountain explorers, gamers, scientists, artists, athletes, or anything in between, there’s a camp sure to cure their boredom blues. Register early and don’t miss out on an extraordinary summer for them and a little peace and quiet for you.
