Mimesis Documentary Film Festival
When: 8/2 – 8/7
Where: Boedecker Theater
This documentary film festival, hosted by The Dairy Arts Center, returns once again with a host of fascinating workshops, independent films, and more. Filmmakers are set to showcase their interesting, inquisitive work in conjunction with installation art and group-focused discussions. Mimesis focuses on personal, underrepresented, and culturally specific documentaries that truly depict art happening in real life.
Boulder Taco Fest
When: 8/6, 12 – 7pm
Where: Boulder Public Library
If you’re seeking a unique summer experience in Boulder, Colorado, look no further than the Boulder Taco Fest. This festival showcases the best tacos our city has to offer, Lucha Libre wrestling for some high value entertainment, live music, and so much more. Claire Ashley: Plump, Pucker, and Squish
When: 8/11 – 8/28
Where: Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art
For a visual experience unlike any other, visit BMoCA to witness Claire Ashley’s exhibit, Plump, Pucker, and Squish. These neon-colored, eye-catching, shape-shifting works of art combine the lines of sculpture, movement, paint, and performance. Picture a gigantic, balloon shaped sculpture made from nylon and covered in brilliant hues and you’ve only scratched the surface of what Ashley is showcasing during this upcoming exhibit.
Rocky Mountain Folks Festival
When: 8/12 – 8/14
Where: Lyons, Colorado
The 32nd annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival is back at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, Colorado. This 3-day festival showcases our country’s best folk musicians in a gorgeous mountain environment. Snag a camping pass to set up shop for the entire weekend, hang with other campers, and enjoy laid-back music fest vibes. Children under 12 get in for free, making this an awesome weekend activity for the whole family.
Boulder County Fair
When: 8/11 – 8/14
Where: Boulder County Fairgrounds
The Boulder County Fair is the longest running state fair in Colorado. Established in 1869, this event has it all. From rides and eats to 4H competition and livestock sales, area residents can immerse themselves in a real county fair experience. Don’t miss multicultural day, which will feature Mexican Foclic dancers, Nepali Jata, and more.
August is chock full of exciting events that underscore all of the diverse communities that call Boulder County home. Art, agriculture, music and more find a place to perform and we can’t be more excited to participate.
