Summertime in scenic Boulder, Colorado is officially in full swing. Thankfully, it looks very different than last summer with outdoor events, in-person gatherings, and mask-free hiking back on the table. Here are a few events and activities we’ll be checking out this August in our beautiful and exciting city.
Boulder Valley Dressage Show
When: August 1, 11am
Where: Boulder County Fairgrounds
While our city may be known for its rugged mountains, tough trails, and winsome adventure athletes, there’s another outdoor tradition occurring just down the rural roads surrounding Boulder. The Boulder Valley Dressage Show features numerous riders from around the country showcasing their skills in developing their respective horses’ flexibility, response to commands, and balance. Since 1971, the Rocky Mountain Dressage Society has hosted equine competitions, clinics, and scholarships to members in need so that they may expand upon dressage skills. Don’t miss the chance to experience this fascinating dance between humans and horses, up close and personal.
Comedian Josh Blue
When: August 6, 7pm
Where: Gordon Gamm Theatre
After winning NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2006, Josh Blue has gained a dedicated following and ridden the wave of the tumultuous and competitive stand-up comedy industry. Now, he’s well-established in this world and performs over 200 shows a year. Coloradans can enjoy his special brand of jokes and improvisational skills at the Gordon Gamm Theatre this August. No two shows are alike, so if you’ve seen him before, take this opportunity to check him out again for an evening of tear-inducing laughter.
Boulder Ironman 70.3
When: August 7, all day
Where: Boulder Reservoir and surrounding roads
Even if you aren’t a competitive endurance enthusiast, watching the determined racers zoom through the Boulder Ironman 70.3 course is a great way to spend a Saturday. Cheer on fellow Boulderites as they swim the Boulder res, run through town, and bike over 50 miles – all in one day. If you’re really inspired, sign up to volunteer at the various booths and meet other fun-loving, adventure-junkie members in our community.
Hippy Bluegrass Church
When: August 15
Where: Boulder Bandshell
For a new spin on Sunday traditions, grab a picnic blanket, pack a lunch basket, and head down to the Boulder Bandshell for a Hippy Bluegrass-style gathering. Join Nick Forster, long tenured host of Boulder’s e-town hall, as he offers guilt-free gospel music. Forster has long been uniting people of different backgrounds and experiences under a commonality we all share – the love of good music. This thoughtful, music-themed gathering is a great way to celebrate the weekend and recharge for the work week ahead.
