Ah, August; we’re enjoying the last stretch of summer before the kids head back to school and life gets hectic again. Fortunately, this month offers plenty of live music and opportunities to celebrate with our great community. Here’s what we recommend checking out:
When: Wednesday, August 3rd and Friday, August 5th at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Pearl Street Mall
It’s been a rockin’ season of Bands on the Bricks so far, and it’s not over yet! Rounding out this summer’s lineup is The Wendy Woo Band on August 3rd and a special Ironman Welcome Concert featuring The Samples on August 5th. I can’t think of a better way to wrap up the summer than with two of Colorado’s favorite hometown acts.
When: Saturday, August 7th
Where: Begins at Boulder Reservoir. Finish line at 1964 13th Street.
Cheer on some of the world’s best athletes as they take on one of the most difficult daylong sporting events. The Boulder Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bicycle ride, and a marathon 26.2 mile run, in that order and without a break. Luckily, the course offers plenty of opportunities around town to watch the athletes. Shuttles will run from downtown Boulder parking garages to the Boulder Reservoir beginning at 4:00 a.m. on race day for spectators of the swimming portion. The junction of Colorado Road 6 and I-25 underpass is a safe and convenient spot to watch the biking portion. Head to the Boulder City Library lawn, Scott Carpenter Park, or Boulder High School for excellent viewing areas of the running portion and finish line.
Boulder Asian Festival
When: Saturday, August 13th and Sunday, August 14th from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Where: 1300 Block of Pearl Street
Hosted by the Boulder Asian Pacific Alliance, the 21st annual Boulder Asian Festival is a fun, free outdoor celebration of the various Asian and Pacific Island communities that make up the Boulder/Denver area. Bring the family, and enjoy live cultural performances and regional food.
When: Saturday, August 20th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Where: West Central Park, Downtown Boulder
In its third year, this outdoor party features beer samples from 25 local breweries, food, live music, and an opportunity to meet the brewers themselves! Live music performances include indie-folk duo, The Heartstring Hunters and bluegrass group, Chain Station. There won’t be a dull moment here!
Film on the Rocks
When: Tuesday, August 23rd
Where: Red Rocks Amphitheater
Although it’s not located in Boulder, Film on the Rocks is well worth the drive to Red Rocks to catch a flick under the stars. Pack a picnic dinner and catch Deadpool, the summer’s second-to-last film, on Tuesday, August 23rd. Get there early to catch a free performance by The Blue Rider.
