Winters in Boulder are a wonderful time of year. The never ending sunshine and nearby mountains make for some of the best winter recreation in the country. One of our community’s favorite winter events, however, takes place right in town.
The annual ColderBOLDER race is every Boulderite’s opportunity to trade in their skis for running shoes and take on the cold. Update: The event is officially SOLD OUT, but if you hurry, you can still make it onto the waiting list.
When Will The Race Be Held?
The 2016 race will be held on December 3rd. Keep in mind that it will definitely be cold, and perhaps even snowy. Historically, we have snow by the start of November, so be sure to break out the scarves and winter hats before making the trek to the starting line.
Who Can Run?
ColderBOLDER is open to all participants, but runners from last year’s BolderBOULDER will have special time slots, which will provide a more competitive experience.
How Does The Race Work?
The ColderBOLDER is a 5K, which is divided into 13 different races, or heats. The first 12 heats are for BolderBOULDER participants, and they are grouped by last year’s finish times. The final race is open to anyone who enjoys running in the cold. Runners, walkers, and joggers of all skill levels are invited to participate, and the top three men and top three women finishers in each race will receive “Cold Medals” and a complimentary YETI Rambler.
The race ends at the Balch Field House, which is where the after party will be held. Food, drinks, and running apparel vendors will all be there to help you stock up on free swag.
The ColderBOLDER registration page lays out all of the information you need to know. You can find start times, pricing, information on kids’ participation, the rules, and more.
Like any event in the Boulder community, the ColderBOLDER is your chance to get out and show your support for friends, family, and other community members. Put on your running shoes, grab a jacket, and mark December 3rd on the calendar, because this is not something you want to miss. Hurry up and get on that waiting list!
