As Coloradans, we’re fortunate to live in a state that offers abundant resources and advocacy programs for LGBTQ+ community members. I’m proud that Boulder County is one of the most inclusive areas in our state, and Rocky Mountain Equality is doing great work for equity in Boulder and beyond. Formerly Out Boulder County, Rocky Mountain Equality (RMEQ) champions acceptance, visibility, and equality for the LGBTQ+ community. Are you curious about this incredible nonprofit and how you can help or get involved? Here’s what you need to know:
The History of RMEQ
Since Rocky Mountain Equality started as Out Boulder County in the early 1990s, the organization has made great strides in improving the cultural landscape of the Boulder area. While some of these battles have been hard-fought, and progress has sometimes been incremental, RMEQ has played an instrumental role in propelling Boulder County forward. This nonprofit’s operating budget has increased sixfold in the last five years. This is fantastic news for our entire county, especially for the lives impacted by the organization’s outreach and advocacy programs.
Ways to Support RMEQ
If you’re interested in supporting RMEQ, there are many ways to do so! During Pride Month, there are numerous events to take part in. RMEQ organizes most Pride events in and around Boulder, including the iconic Pridefest and Holi-Gay Party.
Being an ally can take many forms, from participating in Pride events to donating when you can. RMEQ accepts tax-deductible donations in any amount and also offers space rental at the Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains. If you’re unfamiliar with the Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains, I encourage you to check it out. Owned by RMEQ, this brand-new building at 3340 Mitchell Lane in Boulder is a permanent space for staff and friends of the nonprofit. The main space on the second floor accommodates 160 guests and includes amenities such as a kitchen, six-foot tables, a Rockville sound system, and more! If you’d like to support RMEQ by booking the Equality Center of the Rocky Mountains, you can inquire about availability here.
