Summertime brings more than just longer days and warmer nights — it also kicks off Red Rocks season! This internationally recognized amphitheater has hosted famed acts like The Beatles, John Denver, The Lumineers, and more. Film on the Rocks features the stunning natural amphitheatre in a different light by projecting feature-length movies on the main stage big screen. Here’s what you need to know about this year’s events.
When and Where:
Film on the Rocks kicked off May 28 and is set to host a series of entertainment events through August. For each showing, doors open at 6:30 and bands bring their talents to the stage at 7 pm. Films begin rolling at dusk and moviegoers can take in their favorite films at one of the coolest theaters in the country. Here’s what you can expect:

This classic showing of Ghostbusters is sure to excite your inner 80’s kid. Celebrated Denver musician YaSi is opening for the headlining act Ramakhandra. Nancy Norton brings her fresh comedic style to the stage for this star-studded evening.

Ready for a trip down memory lane? Bring your girlfriends and relive all the best Regina George one-liners you committed to memory years ago. Tyto Alba’s headlining act will follow Briffaut and stand-up by Janae Burris.
When: 7/1, 6:30 pm
Invite your best wingman along for this Tom Cruise classic and take in epic dogfights on the big screen. Oxeye Daisy, named Denver’s best new rock band of 2019 by Westword, is the main act and Brothers of Brass will be the opener. Comedian Josh Blue, who has graced the stage of The Tonight Show, is sure to leave the crowd in stitches.

Yearning for a good dose of 90’s nostalgia? The Mighty Ducks is sure to deliver. School of Rock and comedian Troy Walker will accompany this beloved underdog story.
When: 8/19, 6:30 pm
Watch internationally acclaimed climber Alex Honnold conquer the impossible — a free solo climb up El Capitan’s 900-metre face. Fort Collins band Whippoorwill and Whitacre bring their folksy sounds to the Red Rocks stage. Comedian Andrew Orvedahl’s sarcastic commentary on everyday life will make audience members howl with laughter.

Now in its 20th year, Film on the Rocks is a highly anticipated summer event throughout the Front Range but it originated from humble beginnings. A collaborative project between the Denver Film Society and Denver Arts & Venues, Film on the Rocks seeks to bring affordable entertainment to this iconic venue. Now, all Colorado residents can experience a show at Red Rocks through what has been dubbed as a quintessential summer experience.
Rules and Regulations
Film on the Rocks is a rain or shine event. Guests are advised to go prepared for inclement weather — you never know what Colorado’s climate has in store.
As always, alcohol, marijuana, and illegal drugs are not allowed at Red Rocks. Soft-sided coolers, snacks, personal blankets, and seat cushions are allowed. So pack in your popcorn and buy a beer for a memorable movie-going experience at Colorado’s favorite venue.
