2019 Boulder County Running Races: Q3 and Q4

We are fortunate to live in a place with rugged, lush mountain terrain that attracts professional and novice athletes from around the world and inspires all residents to explore nature. From beginning runners to seasoned racers, Boulder County offers a variety of road and trail races that showcase our city’s best features. Here are a few lively running events in and around Boulder that encourage runners of all skill levels to lace up their shoes and hit the road. 

Longmont Sunrise Stampede

When: 8/10

Where: Silver Creek High School

Beat the heat with fellow Boulder County residents at this early morning road race. A favorite past time of Longmont, this event is in its 34th year. The Sunrise Stampede offers two lengths – 10K and 2 miles, making it the perfect practice ground for beginning runners and a place for long tenured pros to win some prize money. Run Like the Wind

When: 8/24

Where: Downtown Allenspark

In true Colorado fashion, this race starts at an elevation of 8,504 feet. Participants may choose between a 5K, 2K, and a dog jog, now in its second year but quickly becoming a favorite event. This inviting mountain run takes racers along wide dirt roads that weave through pine forests and provide awe-inspiring views of our state’s rugged mountains. 

Roger’s Grove Trail Half Marathon

When: 8/25

Where: Roger’s Grove Nature Area

This half-marathon and 10K trail run takes participants around Longmont on well-maintained concrete and dirt paths while offering unobstructed views of the mountains. If you’ve ever wanted to run a diverse yet gentle race, Roger’s Grove Trail race might be the one for you. Both distances bring runners around a beautiful lake and across flat pastures. Now in its fifth year, this race is quickly becoming a favorite of Boulder County residents. 

Boulder Rez Marathon

When: 9/8

Where: Boulder Reservoir

Events at the Boulder Reservoir showcase the diverse ecosystem that our beautiful city is home to. The Boulder Rez Marathon includes multiple distances, from a marathon down to a 10K, there’s a race that all runners will enjoy. Afterwards, hang around and enjoy food trucks, live music, an awards ceremony, and more. 

Boulder Backroads

When: 9/28

Where: Boulder Reservoir

Since 1999, this race has been attracting runners from around the country and is now considered one of Boulder’s best marathons. The race takes participants around Boulder Reservoir and out to run along dirt roads framing picturesque pastures and farms. Afterwards, racers can treat themselves to a cold craft beer from Avery Brewing Co. and stick around to party with fellow competitors. 


When: 12/7

Where: CU Boulder

The biggest winter race in Boulder is back for another season. This chilly run invites participants of the springtime race, the BolderBOULDER, to run their hearts out for a chance to place amongst competitors of a similar skill level. After the race, grab a bite or a beverage at Balch Fieldhouse and explore the massive expo of restaurateurs and retailers. 

Late summer and fall races provide the chance to extend our running practice into colder seasons while also offering motivation to continue exploring Boulder’s beautiful outdoors. Our city’s myriad races encourage runners from all skill levels to gather the gang and sign up for a positive, healthy event right in our own backyard.
