What You Need to Know About the 6th Annual Kentucky Derby Party in Boulder, CO

It’s that time of year again—the Kentucky Derby is here. The first Saturday in May is the perfect occasion to don your favorite hat and sip on a mint julep. Boulder Lifestyle Magazine is hosting its sixth annual Kentucky Derby party, and tickets are on sale now. If you’d like to join the celebration, here’s what you need to know.

About the Event

The viewing of the Kentucky Derby is a longstanding American tradition. The 2018 race marks the 144th running of the derby, and folks from all over the country gather to watch this adrenaline-pumping event. There’s something magical about watching powerful Thoroughbreds run for the roses and anticipating how the results will unfold. If the beauty of the horses isn’t enough to win you over, the electric atmosphere of race day certainly will be.

Not interested in making the trip to Churchill Downs? Take in the festivities right at home in Boulder. Our annual Derby Day celebration will be held at the Highland City Club from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5. The proceeds will benefit There With Care, a nonprofit organization that offers support for those experiencing a medical crisis. After the conclusion of “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy live music amid the beautiful scenery at the club. The derby party is an immensely popular gathering, and space is limited. If you’re looking forward to attending, be sure to order tickets while they’re still available.

Additional Details

The sixth annual Kentucky Derby party is reserved for those ages 21+, and a valid ID is required to purchase beverages. Since the Highland City Club is located in a residential area, no parking is allowed onsite. The Boulder Public Library has a spacious parking lot that’s available for use, but it may be most convenient to opt for an Uber or Lyft. If you’re planning to attend, please note that outside food and drinks aren’t allowed. This is an outdoor event, unless you’ve opted to purchase a VIP ticket. Please keep in mind that children and pets are not permitted at this event.

Whether you’re betting on a favorite horse or simply hoping to enjoy an evening of festivities, Boulder’s derby party will be a blast. In addition to socializing, sipping cocktails, and dancing to a live band, the purchase of your ticket will assist families in need.
